Does "Abundant resources" help the AI?

It has more to do with tech priorities than resource constraints. The AI tends to beeline through the top part of the tech tree, skipping most of the medieval / renaissance / industrial unit techs, and there's nothing to stop them from doing so.

    The tech tree is silly

I've played up to turn 200 on standard/immortal now with Mad's tech tree, and it's much better. Everyone is still in the industrial era except for one civ in modern, and the AI have actually been using medieval and renaissance units so they're not pushovers in the mid game.

    The tech tree is silly

Since posting this thread I've found out about MadDjinns tech tree mod and I'm going to try playing with it, because it looks like it solves a lot of these issues. I'm seeing a false dichotomy in some of these responses, that the tech tree either needs to allow super deep beelines, or else it...

Coming from Victoria 2...thinking about buying Civ6

You're not going to find anything like the detailed economic modelling in Victoria 2 in a Civ game, that's all much, much more abstracted in Civ.

    The tech tree is silly

I was baffled in my most recent game to see that on turn 200 (standard speed), one of the AIs was in the information age and had mechanized infantry, while myself and the rest of the AIs were all still industrial. I took a closer look at the tech tree trying to figure out how this could happen...

Best beliefs to choose for your religion?

I definitely recommend Missionary Zeal for a religious victory, that extra mobility on apostles helps immensely. I took it in my first religious game and it allowed me to outmaneuver my main religious rival's apostle army, sweep my own apostles through his empire and convert everything in a...

Okay, they got a little carried away with barbarians...

I've been enjoying the early game barbarian pressure. Usually opening with scout > slinger > builder > slinger > settler has worked out okay, but I throw in another 1-2 slingers before the settler if I'm surrounded on all sides by open space. The only time I've really had trouble is that in...

    Favorite Map Type so far?

Fractal has given me the most fun maps so far. Pangaea in this game seems unbalanced, it generates way too much land for the number of civs. Last time I tried it, it put 4 civs on the left half of the continent, and 2 civs (including me) on the right half. After rushing out the other civ on my...

Artillery cannot fire over a tile if jungle was cleared since they last moved

On patch 1.0.0.26 (221715). If an artillery is blocked from firing on a city because its view is obstructed by jungle, and you use a builder to remove the jungle, it still can't fire on the city. The UI shows the city as a targetable tile, but attempting to fire on it does nothing. If the...

How does Civ 6 compare to Civ 4?

It's a bit early to say for sure, we'll have to see what they do in future patches. So far, I've been enjoying my time with Civ 6, but in its current state I wouldn't say it's better than Civ 4. I think Civ 4 still has by far the better designed tech tree. It allows limited beelines and you...

How much warmonger penalties must be immediately toned down ?

Voted for the last option cause it's funny. Seriously though, why does the warmonger penalty exist? Is it a "pile on the leader" mechanic, or is it there for roleplaying purposes? If it's to bring down the leader, then it shouldn't matter whether they became the leader through conquest, or...

AI: Why is it so hard to improve?

I'm a bit disappointed that the combat AI in Civ 6 seems to be a step back even from that in Civ 5 BNW. You'd think they could port most of the existing logic over, since Civ 5 and 6 have almost exactly the same combat model. And while the Civ 5 AI wasn't brilliant by any means, it did at least...

Why the district cost increase is an irreparably flawed mechanic and what we would need instead

ICS is a thing that will tend to happen in any civ game where you have a lot of buildings that produce flat, passive output without need for a citizen working them. Naturally people want to cram in as many cities as possible to get the flat output as many times as possible. Part of the reason...

    Tall, Wide?

Yep, tall vs. wide looks to be dead, you can be tall and wide. I'm glad about that, I always found tall vs. wide to be a pretty boring dichotomy. The more interesting balance question to me is rapid expansion vs. gradual expansion. Civ 4 and later patches in Civ 5 had mechanics that made new...

    Civ4 Lovers/Civ5 Haters Thoughts on Civ6

As a Civ 4 preferring player, what I've seen of Civ 6 so far looks pretty good. The removal of global happiness alone is enough to get me pretty excited. That was the biggest factor that prevented Civ 5 from taking over as my favorite Civ game. Hopefully whatever expansion limiting mechanic...
