How is a starting spot determined?

Starting bias, which every civ has, is how starting positions are determined. Beginning next to a natural wonder or two is simply luck of the draw, since they are assuredly randomly generated along with the rest of the map if it's on a script. Most starting positions also seem to have anywhere...

    Are science buildings overpowered?

They're not overpowered, they're just very strong buildings. Since you practically live and die by tech, and these buildings give you the means to live, they are very important. However they're useless without means to grow. I'd say growth buildings are just as powerful, if not more important.

    Favourite Civilizations!

Favorite Civilizations: Native American & Mesoamerica civs (Iroquois, Shoshone, Inca, Aztec, Maya) They've never let me down and I find them most adaptable to my style of play, although it also encourages me into certain paths depending on which one I am playing as. If I roll Aztec I will be...

9 Most Wanted Civs Post BNW

I think someone already said it, but they should bring in the only remaining veteran civs who aren't in yet: Sumer Hittites Sioux Khmer I'm also in agreement that Hungary, Canada, Australia, and perhaps Vietnam should be included in a future update. Not sure about Inuit. Would be a...

Is King to Emperor a big jump?

I can win consistently on King now, although every now and then I get blindsided by a surprise difficulty increment that rivals the early game towards the endgame where more and more things come into play. I am trying to move onto emperor but I keep getting my butt kicked fairly early and can't...

Tactical crayon inbound: Notes and strategic marker?

One of the features I found myself missing from Civ IV when transitioning to Civ V was that I could no longer leave notes on the map or draw obscenities over the game world in marker to better visualize my strategic approach or otherwise mess around. If this functionality still exists somehow, I...

    Favourite Difficulty to Play On?

I always take things a bit slow when I play a civ game so that I can learn all the game concepts and mechanics before pushing forward for a challenge or change of pace. I began playing on warlord and then moved up to prince and eventually king, waiting until I could consistently win several...

Who else misses having multiple leaders per civ?

Although I somewhat miss the previous system slightly, I think having one leader to represent a Civ is much better. This is particularly so since it means they can focus much more on the leader themselves and their presentation within the game. All of the leader screens in the game have so far...

    Unit Title suggestions

My naming convention typically goes as # of unit (e.g. 1st, 22nd, 18th, etc.) and a name given depending on their promotions or their purpose. For example, if my first warrior unit received a shock promotion, they'd be renamed "1st Offensive" and so on and so forth. If they received other, more...

Best and worst Civs for start bias

Best: Any civ that can get a tile advantage (forest, desert, ocean, etc.) through their unique attributes (UA, UB, UU, etc.) Worst: Any civ that has no tile advantage of any kind and has a start bias in inconvenient situations (desert, tundra, jungle etc.). I think Morocco is the best for...

    Food specialists and Great Farmers?

In Civilization Revolution, there was a type of Great Person known as the Great Humanitarian. It could join a city as a super-specialist, helping the city grow faster, or it could add +1 Population to all of your current cities. I sort of miss this kind of Great Person but I don't know how it...

Civs That make you Start Over

I don't have any experience playing against civs that make me want to start over but there are a few that I know I'm going to have a tough time dealing with if I know I'm going to find myself in a game with. Not quite game-ending, but rather strategy-shifting since it practically forces you to...

What Founder and Enhancer beliefs do you usually choose?

I tend to focus on religion in a majority of my games, although not to a point of opening with Piety in most of them. As I go up higher on the difficulty levels, I've found that founding and spreading a religion gets more difficult, particularly if I want to have my religion be the dominant one...

Do you finish your games in one sitting/day?

I used to, but I don't anymore as I have gotten busier with other things. My usual playtime for a single round played from start to finish is around 5-8 hours, give or take. I usually play it in sessions of about two or so hours and then come back to it later or another day. I think if I had to...

Bringing a Civilization Back From the Dead

If you got roughed up a few times, you'd be suspicious of everyone else too. It's something that happens to people that have been victimized before, even to the people that have helped them. Part of the reason I think they're really guarded is probably because they see you as a warmonger and not...
