Would you like a PC only sequel to Starships?

    Definitely.

    Installing Civ 4 on Windows Vista / 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10 / 11 (32-/64-bit)

    Excellent! Thanks. It worked perfectly.

Is there a way to shut off worldbuilder?

I use it sometimes to redo the geography of a map. I hate the tile distribution sometimes, especially where deserts and mountains are concerned. I'll change deserts to plains and mountains to desert hills. I usually wait until the map has been discovered fully before I do this, and I try to keep...

    Installing Civ 4 on Windows Vista / 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10 / 11 (32-/64-bit)

It's odd that I never got this message on any other installation, be it XP or Vista.

    Installing Civ 4 on Windows Vista / 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10 / 11 (32-/64-bit)

I just installed vanilla on a new Windows 7 machine and it went without a hitch. Thanks for the advice. The only oddity is when starting a game I get an error message about an invalid voice capture device that I have to dismiss several times. I am assuming this is because I don't have a...

Ways to add even more realism to the military aspect?

Naval bombardment would be fun, as would be defensive artillery/counterbattery fire.

best way to get rid of barbarians?

I like fighting barbarians. They can be a challenge, but they are also a way to level up your troops, especially if you aren't warring early. I good bit of barb busting can help you get to level 4 and build West Point if you aren't a warmonger.

    New to CIV -Curious.

I run IV on a craptop with the same graphics, and have little trouble. I play huge maps and get occasional hiccups , especially in late game, but otherwise it plays fine. Start with lower graphic settings and go from there.

    Unprepared for war

Watch what civics the AI's adopt. If they switch to Military civics like Theocracy, Nationhood or Police State, then they are preparing to war with someone. Watch your borders closely for any approaching troop masses.

    Are you a Numbers Guy/Girl?

In many ways, Civ IV is a numbers game. A lot of players have it condensed and boiled down to mathematical equations. Whipping, hammer yield, food percentages, combat odds, etc. Reading the War cademy and Strategy articles will give you great insight into all this. However, besides being lousy...

    Your most common medic!

I spread Medic around to most unit types, this way I can have them in my battlegroups as needed. I like having several gunships with Medic promotions as sort of a quick response Medivac unit.

I must be missing something completely in war...

You also need to look at the promotion levels of your units as well as the opponent. Archers a with Garrison II or II for example are hard to dig out, even with a superior unit without a City Raider promotion and substantial softening up. With my siege untits I try to get a good mix of...

Who hates the modern era music?

I keep music off now, I don't dislike it, but I've heard it enough, and just listen to CD's. I like Mahler, especially his 1st Symphony, or some Brass Band albums. I have a compilation I used to use when I played hearts of Iron of Military marches and War Movie themes that is also great...

do you ever build theaters, temples?

I build theatres a lot, especially in border cities or captured ones. I usually play leaders who don't get cultural bonuses, so theatres are a nice way to give a good cultural boost realtively cheaply when neded, especially if I don't want to spend gold on the culture slider.
