  • Cheezy, thanks for your patience. I, incidentally, know quite a bit of Chinese history, too. So, insofar as I know more of the 1840s to present, and since most of what I learned is from Chinese communists -- in writing and from government officials I've met, I am glad we have Azale on hand -- whose Avatar appears to be Noomi Rapace from Promethues. Fine choice.
I'm at the very least a democratic socialist. Yea, I would hope to share any knowledge I have on China, and I know a bit about Mexico, the Korean peninsula, and Japan as well.

There are smarter users on those subjects than me but they're less red, unfortunately.
I would like to be able to answer questions in the thread! I have a limited area of interest that I would be likely to butt in on, so I won't be giving any treatises on labor theory of value or anything :p
And here I was picturing the new Odd Couple.

I also love how the wiki entry for Peronism spends so much time talking about how he wasn't an Anti-Semite.
You have a Peronist for a friend? Jesus. Liking that man is to Argentina in polite conversation as William Morris Hughes is to Australia in polite conversation or Thurmond Strom is to America in polite conversation. Lots of people might like them but damned if you want to know who! (Most of them also have some slight sense of shame in admitting it in public).
    Hello there.

Might I interest you in inviting you to Beyond the Lampshade which a place of humour and debate? It is my primal forum; a community very close. Consider for great justice as there is talk by the admin for a multiplayer game of Civ5.
When MisterCooper quotes, he never uses the regular features, but sea-greens the text and does it all funny-like. It was over in the Tavern Chavez thread.
Unfortanently, I am not sure how to accept your request to join my group (again I'm new this and I don't know what I"m doing, sorry).

Secondly, I think Communist are more likely to be gentleman than anyone else.
I am new at this so I'm not sure how to send an invite, but you seem like the kind of person that is more than fit for the group I just founded, "Inquiring Gentlemen"
Which is why I hold the view I do on Lincoln. Even if Abraham Lincoln did do moral good by freeing 4 million people, the 600,000 people he killed, and anyone who got arrested under his habeus corpus suspensions, got screwed over. I think that's why I disagree so strongly with everyone else on Lincoln. To me, if you aren't in the government, you kill one person, you're a murderer, even if you've done all kinds of other good. But we don't view our leaders that way. I feel a moral disconnect there. But I guess as a utilitarian, you wouldn't.

I don't think, contrary to what some say, that we're disagreeing on the facts. I realize that Lincoln, while he was certainly racist, did prefer the freedom of the slaves, but utilitarianism led him to fight to preserve the Union. I realize the South fought to preserve their evil institution. I can't really defend the South. They were evil too. But from my ethics, Lincoln was still incredibly evil, hence why I hold the position I do.
That's where I would disagree with you. Of course, even within a deontological perspective there's a lot of things that are up for debate. For instance, is stealing property morally wrong, or is property itself immoral? What constitutes aggression? Are there some redistributions (ie, towards defense or police) that help everyone? (I say yes, which is why I'm not an ancap even though I philosophically sympathize with them). Ultimately it comes down to the golden rule for me. How would you feel if you were the guy who got screwed? Who would have had a better life if society didn't deny you of your rights?

I understand that it doesn't always work exactly like that, but oftentimes it does.
