About:
A Civilization 1 themed total conversion scenario modpack for Civ2 by John Valdez.

Mod files rescued from Atomic Network backups and repacked in 7zip by Blake. Successfully tested in Civ2 MGE. However John's DLL replaces will only work with Civ2 FW. Also there was no Title.gif so Blake added one for fun.

Also Blake has created a special remastered graphics overhaul (or more precisely demastered lol) for this modpack (see 2nd screenshot below). Go here to download the addon (attached to bottom of linked post):

Original Description/Intro:
WHAT IS THE CIV1 PATCH?

Basically if you have played the CLASSIC CIVILIZATION I then you should be feeling rather
nostaligic at the moment. Every effort has been made to recreated the original game that
started it all, right down to the very feel of the environment. Even those cheesy little
unit graphics have been included (oops!, sorry TTG!). Actually this modpack is a Civ2
version of what an upgraded CIV 1 might have looked like, so you can expect to see a few
new things, but mostly there are a lot of those wonderful rules and graphics from the old
civ game.

Now that you have downloaded this patch, I wanted to take a moment to share with you the
hell that I went through to make this patch possible. Actually, it's just to give you an
idea what this patch is about and what the point of this mod is in first place.
It is always good to know where the author is coming from and whether you're a player or
a modpack writer, your going to love the challenges set forth in this testimony.

First, there were significan difference in the way both games presented the graphics that
had to be worked out. The Civ 1 screen used an X,Y-two dimensional grid and Civ 2 used a
an isometric grid. Although it sounds technical, to the regular civ player, it just means
that the graphics were drawn to look different in both games. Civ 1 showed the terrain from
bird's eye view looking directly downward. Civ 2 showed the terrain from a high point
looking across toward the horizon. As you would expect, the screen captures did not transfer
directly or compatibly to the Civ 2 format. In some cases, graphics simply had to be made
from scratch because there were equivalents or alternatives.

This is why the terrain appears similar but not exactly like Civ 1. In my opinion, I believe
you will be quite pleased and probably won't notice all that much unless you are running
both games at the same time (which is possible if you turn off the sound on Civ 1) and making
comparisons.

Secondly, certain colors used in Civ 1 didn't...hm...how can say it..."show up" in Civ 2 when
they were transferred to the Civ 2 screen. Specificall, yellow and light blue simply came
out as white, which meant there was a lot of drawing and fixing to be done. In addition,
terrains were rotated sideways to one corner like a diamond and "swished" into the shape of
that would fit the "terrain.gif" file. Certain distortions were worked out except for the
mountains which gave me nothing but grief ( I ma redraw them in future versions but no
promises!).

**Here is an interesting note: I found that when screen captured, the Civ 1 icons were exactly
the same size as Civ 2 icons and fit perfectly (aside from the color problems). This has set
in motion ideas for capturing and creating the "COLONIZATION" modpack, the so-called sequel
to Civ 1 to be completed some time in 2001.

In the midst of all this, Win '95 freaked out on me and hasn't allowed me to screen capture
another thing out of the Civ 1 game. Luckily, I had captured the intro slides and I was able
to convert them to the intro for Civ 2 using a program called GifXtractor Beta 3 version
by Rune Berge 1999, given to me by. Thus, the INTRO.DLL and TILES.DLL have been modified to
create the Civ 1 environment. It is a great program, but I recommend it to experienced
modpack and scenario writers only.

Moreover, the city screen was one of my greatest feats. I was able to put together a screen
from scratch using only the background of the Civ 1 screen as a guide to get a comparable
looking screen. I had created a beautiful screen or so I thought until I deleted it. The
screen you have now is actually a better recreation the first one! So, don't tell me that
it is not perfect because I am not making a third one even in future versions.

Finally, now you know the trials and tribulations of a modpack author. I don't know if
story tickled your fancy, it sure did for me, but it is meant to let aspiring authors
know that anything is possible. --jv
