One of the several improbably named characters played by Groucho Marx, Rufus T. Firefly is the protagonist of the classic 1933 comedy Duck Soup. The appointed leader of the small country of Freedonia, Firefly spends most of his time in office quipping, wooing tall society dames, performing classic vaudeville routines with Harpo, and starting wars by insulting ambassadors. Shortly after the film's release, Benito Mussolini banned the film in Italy, thinking it to be a personal attack. Upon hearing this news, the Marx Brothers were reportedly overjoyed.
