In the year of 1500 the region arrived, where today the state of the Bahia was situated, the first European boat, commanded for the Portuguese Peter Álvares Cabral. There, in 1550, have established the first European city of Americas, Salvador. The city well is strengthened to be able to resist the eventual foreign attacks. After years, it is gone advancing for the interior, through the entrances and with the installation of devices of sugar cane for the exportation of the sugar. Gradually, the region goes itself developing, being Salvador the capital of the Portuguese colonies in America.
Salvador each time more goes growing and becoming per many years the biggest city of the Western Hemisphere, currently the miscigenada capital more of Brazil. This opulence of the city called the attention the Dutch, who for two times had tried to take the city, but they did not count on the bravery and the intelligence of the Bahian citizens, that, guided for the governor-generality, had formed the Soteropolitana Guerrilla, bringing to the world the guerrilla tactics. The people of the city were very happy fighting, winning the Dutch in 1642. In 1789, the ideas of Freedom, Equality and Fraternity in France got power. Ten years later the ideas are brought to the Bahia for Cipriano Barata. It tries to install in the Bahia a regimen that benefited the population and brought the progress for the Bahians, but was unhappy. The Sabinada, that was the name of its attempt of revolution, did not obtain to resist the repression of the Portuguese Crown. Approximately 24 years the Bahian people show its bravery again: Brazil if had proclaimed independent, but it had an enormous Portuguese resistance in Salvador, commanded for General Madeira de Melo, also with naval support weighed. But the Bahian troops, commanded for General Labatut had not cooled themselves. With the massive support of the population, the forces formed for the Harnesses had fought on behalf of the patriotism. The Bahian hero acts were symbolized for the actions of Medeiros Soldier, name for Maria Quitéra Maria that signed up and if it became the first woman to enter the rows of the Brazilian Army.
