The Army Mod 2016-10-05

The Army Mod for BTS 3.19

WoC/BUG and Standard version included in download.

Warmongers and anyone else who builds military units: Have you ever agonized over getting rid of those older but very experienced land units? The Army is your answer. This unit now allows you to combine those old obsolete units into a force to be reckoned with. Frustrated that you are going to loose those hard earned promotions and experience? The Army is your answer. Pissed off by that new version of the game that limits you to only one unit per tile? The Army is your answer. Are you tired of wasting gold in an endless succession of expensive upgrades to keep your units combat viable? The Army is your answer. What modern armor commander would not wet his pants when he sees a huge army of angry axmen boil over the hill? Construct truly frightening hoards of military might. Introducing the Civ4 Army unit for BTS 3.19.

The mod adds one new tech, Organized Warfare; three new buildings, the Archery Range, the Archery Training Center national wonder and the Oil Tower; and 14 new units to build in Civ4: The Military Training Instructor (MTI), 7 different Army units, the Minuteman, the Police, the Slinger, the Ballista, the Ram, and the big surprise: The Siege Tower. New Archers get 3 experience points, when built in a city with the Archery Range. The Siege Tower can be used to defeat enemy walls. When moved next to a city, the Siege Tower gets a randum chance to actually remove the enemy walls, which simulates a successful wall breach and allows other troops to attack the city, left vulnerable without the defensive bonus of walls. A failed attempt to breach the walls will result in the total loss of the Siege Tower. The Oil Tower increases your city defense by 50% and helps thwart the use of Siege Towers and or Battering Rams. The Ballista has a bonus, when used against the Siege Tower.

Restrictions: To train a new Army unit, you must have a Military Training Instructor (MTI) unit. The MTI can be built only in cities with a Barracks. You must have 3 cities for every Army you create. Example: If you have one Army and 5 cities, you will not be able to be able to train a second Army until you have 6 cities. Once you build your second MTI and have enough cities, then the Build Army button will appear so you can select the required units necessary to form up your second Army unit.

Each of the 7 eras in the game allows you to build a new and more powerful Army unit: The Ancient Army, the Classical Army, the Medieval Army, the Renaissance Army, the Industrial Army, the Modern Army and the Future Army. The beauty of this mod is none of the different Army units will become obsolete, as you can build a formidable Ancient Army late in the game.

The number of units required to train an Army, depends upon the type of Army you choose to train. The type of army you can create depends upon the current era you have researched. You must research at least one tech from the same era for the type Army you want to train. Example: A classical army requires a classical tech. The default number of units for each type of army is 3. However, the number of units required for older armies will increase by 1 unit respectively for each tech era you have researched. For example: If you want to create an ancient army, 3 ancient units are required in the ancient era, 4 in the classical era, 5 in the medieval era, all the way to 9 ancient units required to create an ancient army in the future era. Again, if you choose a future era Army, the default number of only 3 units can be selected. Once you select the era for the type of Army you desire, the popup to select the units will only show units (in the same city, where your MTI is) from the era you chose. Thus, each Army is restricted to only those units from it's respective era. The MTI can only build Army units in a city. So you must have the required units in the city for the MTI to train your Army.

Each Army combines the strength values for each unit selected. The movement is based upon the slowest unit selected. There is a formula to calculate the chance for the Army unit to retain some of the promotions from the selected units. Every Army receives the Sentry promotion by default. If you build the West Point national wonder, then all new Armies will receive the desirable Leadership promotion.

The future Army will easily become the most powerful unit in the game and Civ4 will never be the same again. The Army is the Answer to the warmonger's prayer and gives new meaning to the old phrase: Army of One.

Enjoy!
