Original Description/Intro:
^^THE MOON - Man's First Stepping Stone
^
^Since the dawn of time, men have been fascinated by the moon - it is the largest object in
^the sky. The Romans said they saw seas on it; artists drew fanciful images of what they
^beleived life on the moon looked like, and Jules Verne wrote extensively about it. Without
^the moon and the tides it generates as it orbits the world, life on Earth could never have
^evolved as it has. The Moon has also acted as a shield, taking many heavy meteor impacts
^instead of Earth.
^
^When humans first visited the moon, they found it was lifeless and barren. They left
^shortly after, and no-one set foot on Earth's smaller sibling for fifty years. This changed
^in the year 2027.
^
^Seven of the most advanced nations in the world have launched simultaneous missions to the
^moon with a view to setting up bases, which can be used as jump pads for missions to the
^rest of the solar system. These expeditions all arrived at approximately the same time,
^and the setting up of the first permanent colonies was about to begin when something
^unexpected happened.
