Actually, Civ5 allows you to build obsolete units. You can build Warriors when you have both Iron and Swordsmen.
But it wasn't very succesful..
I don't have the game yet, but how these units work exactly? Submarines seems to be ranged, but can capture ships?

Same here, railroads are too important in history to be ignored. My guess is, railroads are separated from the road upgrades, and have to be built...
They also make good targets for nukes with devastating effects! :)
The reason why leaders where silents during denunciations, asking for war against X, etc in Civ5 was, I guess, the difficulty to add the target...
