When I try to start a new game, everything goes fine until I press "begin game". I then get a brief glimpse of my starting location and the game crashes to desktop. Interestingly enough, I can load saved games and they work, even ones created with the 1.0.0.110 patch and Australia DLC.

I've tried verifying game files and reinstalling both the game and the VC redistributables, but to no avail.

No mods.

I'm having the same issue. Crashes in same place, even if I load the created Autosave from the new game. Pre-Aussie update games still load fine.

Mods uninstalled, game uninstalled and re-installed. Have a ticket open with 2KSupport but no luck yet.

How were you able to get to the point that you could save a game post-Aussie update?

I had exactly the same issue - I could load saved games after the Oz DLC+Summer patch, but whenever I started a new game, it would crash before I could settle. No mods for me either, BUT, I did edit the GlobalParameters.xml file to push out the distance between my starting city and other civs. I restored that file to the unedited backup and I have just successfully started a new game without a crash! Perhaps this won't help you if you removed all the files when you did your reinstall, but worth a thought.

It's frustrating if I have to live with Civs all up in my grill once again, and vast open spaces everywhere else (just my luck), but perhaps it's time for me to try out Montezuma.

Aaaannnd.... I hashed it up again somehow! Fortunately, Verify Integrity of Game Files found a couple of files that weren't OK and fixed them. That might be a good thing to try if you don't think you've edited anything as I had.

Now for that Aztecs game!

My game doesn't create an autosave when it crashes. I guess it crashes just before making one. Otherwise saving in-game works just as usual, and if I copy a save from e.g. a friend's computer, it works.

Same for me. I opened a trouble ticket with 2K. Thanks for the post as a reminder.

Thanks for the reminder--which makes sense considering the issue is new starts.

I had forgotten that I'd tweaked those files, but figured when I deleted and reinstalled the game through steam it shouldn't have mattered. Sure enough. The original copies of the xml and lua from October were there, and all the other files modified on 2/24/17. I made copes of the Global Parameters and Starting Locations files, and overwrote the file with my old October copies.

It worked; I could start new games now. Which doesn't make sense because I did have the February files in there.ANyways, I delete both files and back and let Steam re-install today and we're still groovy. Thanks for the help.

I somehow got this solved. I first tried with a fresh Windows installation on another partition and the game worked fine. Back to the old Win-install, I then uninstalled the game (+ deleted rest of related files manually) and every VC++ redistributable shown in control panel/uninstall programs, then restarted and installed latest VC++ 2012 and 2015 versions manually, then installed the game again through Steam... and it works. No idea what did it in the end, but I suspect the VC++ thingies.
