Proposal Details
Change is simple enough that it fits into the title. It could be 'highest unlocked Melee unit' instead, but this keeps the policy text shorter.

The other two ancient trees get a free unit in an early-ish policy, so this change would be aesthetically pleasing. Currently the Artist vs Engineer choice at the start of Tradition also is a boring no-brainer and this would spice it up. Even the Flavour works great since the building granting the Engineer is a guardhouse.

I am not a balance expert, but it is unlikely that a single free melee unit will break things in a bothersome ways. AI is swimming in free units anyway and if a player is good enough to incrementally turn a single Warrior into an overpowered advantage they deserve it.

I am really curious how this will perform. It is not exciting and there was barely any discussion, but lots of people might just go 'Why not' due to that.

Would've been cooler if this was a slinger, still want to vote for it though and maybe change it later.

The proposed changes to defensive buildings already have supply being added to the Engineer policy. Currently Tradition gets extra military supply added on the Finisher; a proposed defensive building change is to move it forward to the Engineer Policy's free building (Guardhouse).

- That vote looks like it's going to go through, and that will spruce up the engineer policy just fine.
- Adding a cheap, probably already obsolete unit onto a policy serves very little purpose
- This steps on the toes of the Authority finisher, which gives free melee units too.

I don't like it. Nay.

The tradition tree is a choice between production or faith
It is production + more production vs faith + culture, notably at a time where culture quickly leads to other yields since border growth upgrades the tiles you work. The first option needs some more spice.
- That vote looks like it's going to go through, and that will spruce up the engineer policy just fine.
Not in a way that matters. Supply limit on one of the very first policies is about as immediately relevant as a bonus to religious pressure would be.

It isn't OP, but still gives Tradition a little bit of help defending from Barbs early game. I don't see why not.
