1.74 Patch ?????

How do i install the 1.74 patch on my computer without it screwing up?
I run windows xp

Wrong forum. Don't use the ingame installer. Click on the Civ4 tab at the top of the page. Go to Patch and Update. Download.

What version of the game do you have? From disc or downloaded from someone like Direct2Drive or Steam? Is it just plain civ 4 or do you have the Wrlords or Beyond the Sword expansions or a Complete version?
