i.e. since decades ago.

I lived in Mentor (it's men-ner, not min-ner as someone pointed out earlier) the entirety of my life before I jumped ship and came to New Zealand four years ago.
It's a big school yes, but it's no worse than any other school. There's bullying for sure but where isn't it?
What I find strange is that the article didn't mention there's a very sizable Croatian population there, I know a big focus of it is on that poor girl who killed herself. What I mean is, they bullied her with all these threats about her accent and all that awful rubbish, she must have had friends in that society. Not to paint with a broad brush but the Croatians stuck together, it's easy to understand that people from a similar background like being together.
Anyway, not sure where I was going with that. Bit blown away to hear such a thing happened in one's own home town.

Given their lack of remorse, I hope a prosecutor can make a criminal case against them.
It would be one thing if they felt terrible and didn't realize how serious their actions were, but now I believe their intent was to get her to kill herself. If not, they at least showed depraved indifference.
Charge them with murder. As adults. Then we'll see how funny they think it is.
This just bolsters my belief that the only solution to bullying is raising your kids to know to never let themselves be bullied. Horrible as it is psychopaths like these other girls will always exist and you will run into them, and most people aren't prepared for it. I'm not trying to say it is at all this girls fault for being weak and giving in, most people aren't psychologically prepared for that sort of thing. I think parents need to get better at teaching their children to stand up for themselves, because that's the only way bullying can end. I can't see intervention by authorities really helping in these kinds of situations, we just need to impress upon our kids that they don't have to take abuse like this. Kids need to understand that it's okay to get right back in a bully's face and tell them to "F off" and sometimes it's okay to knock somebody's freaking teeth out. Never a good thing, but you have to deal with bullies on their level, instead we pump our kids full of turn the other cheek BS and they end up like this poor girl.

I'm sorry but this ignores that some people are "born that way". Some people are born shy and submissive. You can't tell everyone to just deal with it. It's like telling black people they should just deal with racism, or gays they should deal with gay bashing.
This behavior is unacceptable and you can't go knocking their teeth out or you'll get sued and your family will lose their home. Just dealing with it is not a viable option.
