4929) You stop measuring time in 'days', in favour of using 'turns'.

4930) You keep a computer in every room of your house, with Civ2 installed and running, so you're never too far away from the game...

4931) ...and you keep a few floppies full of save files in your pocket...

4932) ...and a burnt copy of your Civ2 CD in the other...

4933) ...because your real Civ2 CD has been enshrined in you basement...

4934) ...where you go each day to worship it...

4935) ...and sacrafice small animals to it.

4936) Your set off on a quest to spread your 'Cult of Civ2' arround the world.

4937. Just when you thought you've broken your Civ addiction, it pulls you right back in...

4938. You are dtill able to come up w/ reasons even after this list has reached almost 5000.

4939. After taking a look at the dates of all the posts in this thread, you notice that long periods of time w/o a post is normal, and therefore nothing to worry about.

4940. You still think Civ2 is fun, even after nearly 4 years of playing.*

4941. When you crosspost w/ Yuri, you know things are starting to return to the "good ol' days." (heck, it was annoying back then, but still...)

Just so everyone knows, I will make my very best efforts to do a catchup on the "1000 Reasons" award ceremonies once 5000 is reached.

4942 - You just can't work clues #4934 - 4936 since you use whatever time you have left after playing Civ2 is used for petitioning for longer days.

4943 - You have forgotten what "sleep" means.

    @S290
Good luck. But you'll need a "don't give up" kind of spirit even more.

Edit: Have you all seen that we are on page 60? Keep up the good work, guys!

Thanks. As of right now, I've finished the count for the 1st 15 pages (862 reasons). I hope to get around 10-20 pages' worth of counting finished each day.

4944. You are so devoted to this thread that you are cataloging every reason that has been posted so far.

4945. You are more concerned about your reason count than your post count.

4946 - You pledge to play two minutes of Civ2 for each minute you spend here.

4947 - You pledge to play one hour of Civ2 for each post you make.

    4948 - ...and it's no problem!

4949 - You wonder why the Civ2 music isn't on top of all hit charts.

4950 - You ask your friend who is a computer geek to make a palmtop version of Civ2.

4951. As you count 35 pages of reasons, you read a couple of them and begin longing for the good ol' days.

4952. In order to recapture that magic feeling once more, you fire up your first game of Civ2 in a while.

4953. You wonder how you ever got sidetracked in the first place, since NOTHING has greater staying power than Civ2.

4954. Anyway, although you are still a little rusty at first, you soon have a magnificent empire up and running and have built roughly 30 cities even before AD 1.

4955. You begin thinking about going back over the thread once again and writing a short history of the entire "1000 Reasons" thread.

4956. ...Especially since you've seen most of the historic events with your very own eyes.

4957. However, you quickly conclude doing so would distract you from your Civ2 game, so you forget it for a while.

4958. You finally come up with an idea for why the people of the Middle East are so unhappy--no Cathedrals. (If you don't get that right away, think about what the predominant religions are in the Middle East...)

4959. All of your "get rich quick" schemes involve building Freight units and sending them to foreign countries.

4960. You see an old truck w/ wooden slats over the bed and wonder what they're delivering.

4961. You hop on a nearby railroad tracks and are so busy being disappointed that you don't instantaneously zip several miles down the track that you almost fail to notice the oncoming train...

4962. You can't understand how some people can only post one reason in this thread and then leave, never to be seen again... (I've seen that a couple of times as I've been compiling these things.)

4963 - ...but you figure that since it's not a foreign truck you can just take a lokk at the sidebar...

4964 - ...and get confused when you can't find it.

4965 - You don't miss the good old days as they were days not devoted solely to Civ2...

4966 - ...but at least the few games you managed were good...

4967 - ...but then all games of Civ2 are good.

4968 - Your computer has been turned on constantly since 1996...

4969 - ...with Civ2 constantly running on it.

4970 - You realise that there are only 30 clues left before #5000, but you quickly forget about it because the Mongols are acting up again.

4971 - You don't even consider posting any more clues as it would take too much time from Civ2...

4972 - ...but you're playing a network Civ2 game and have nothing better to do between the turns.

4973 - You have no idea Civ4 is in the works.

4974 - In fact you don't even know Civ3 is out...

4973 - ...nor any other versions of the original Civ2...

4974 - ...not even the first patch!

4975 - ...and if you knew you wouldn't have installed it as you think that Civ2 was perfect the way it was shipped.

4976 - You are better in Civ2 than the person who introduced you to it. *

4977 - You have no idea how the weather is as you have stared at the computer screen since 1996.

4978 - You think that "BC" means "Before Civ".

4979 - You play like the AI/S in multiplayer games and win.

4980 - You play even dumber than the AI/S and win.

4981 - You are so good that you think that your human opponents in multiplayer games are really controlled by the AI/S...

4982 - ...and wonder why they get offended when you tell them.

4983 - You are suprised they can talk at all, since you think of them as AI/Ss.

4984 - You wonder why people play Civ3.

4985 - You have a Civaholics Anonymous Membership Card, but you had a friend change "Civ3" into "Civ2" for you.

4986 - The reason you didn't change it yourself was that it would take too much time from Civ2...

4987 - ...and that the software for editing it would take precious space away for savegames.

4988 - People are surprised that you have friends in the first place...

4989 - ...or the money for a computer and electricity, since you never go to work.

4990 - You know better than people because your friends are Civ2 addicts as well...

4991 - ...which are the only kind of friends you really want...

4992 - ...but you wonder why that friend would make the time for correcting your membership card away from Civ2...

4993 - ...just as he did for the rest of your friends...

4994 - ...including himself. (Woohoo, palindrome!)

4995 - When you do maths you think like this: "If I have three Settlers and then built three more, how many Settlers would I have then?"...

4996 - ...which is the only way you know how to do math as you dropped out of school because of Civ2.

4997 - You learnt English by playing Civ2.

4998 - You think that Abraham Lincoln still is President of the USA.

    4999 - You're proud we beat the Civ3 thread...

5000 - ...which didn't make it to 5000 like ours.

5001. You are patiently awaiting news about the arrival of the Swiss spaceship on Alpha Centauri, as it should have been launched a number of years ago.

5002 - You wonder how the hell you managed to pull off making 37 clues in one go. (Wouldn't that take far too much time from Civ2?) *

5003. You can still remember clues that were written at the very beginning of the thread.

5004. ...Partly because you've been counting every reason written.*

5005. You have noticed several numbering mistakes and will go back through the thread again to record them all, as over time these things can accumulate if left unnoticed.*

Currently on page 50--only 10 more pages to go!

5006 - you became frustrated at the teduous process to mod Civ3 and decided to go back to the basics of the easy moding of Civ2.

*Scene: A news studio. Insert Cheesy Anchor Intro music*

News Anchor: ...And now, an update up on the progress of the Awards Commission for the "1000 Reasons Award Ceremony." Here's Reporter1, brought to you live from the Great Library of 1000 Reasons.

*Cut to: a shot of a well-dressed male reporter in a studio-logo'ed jacket. In the background is a rather large building. Noise of general commotion as Reporter1 speaks.*

Reporter1: Well, as you can see, I am standing in front of the steps of the Great Library, and everyone is carefully watching the big doors immediately behind me, waiting for them to open and the big announcement to be made. The Commission has been cooped up in there for four days, carefully looking over the records and...

*Someone in background says, "Look! Up there!" Volume of commotion increases.*

R1: Oh, ladies and gentlemen, there seems to be a sudden commotion... *turns around* Smoke is rising from the chimney, and, ladies and gentlemen, it's white! *pan and zoom to chimney smoke* That is the white smoke, right there on live television! That can only mean *camera focuses back on reporter* that the Commission has just finished its count and... It looks like the doors are opening...

    *cut back to studio*

NA: This just in--A flying saucer has landed in front of the United Nations. A small figure has emerged from the vehicle and is addressing the crowd assembled there. Details at 11. Back to you, R1..

*cut back to Reporter1. A businessman-like person is standing at a podium at the top of the stairs to the entrance of the Great Library*

R1: Well, it seems as if the head of the commission has come out and is motioning for the crowd to silence... *commotion dies down to barely audible*

Head of Commission: Ladies and gentlemen, people assembled here and watching worldwide, all reasons up to 5000 have been reviewed and accounted for! We shall now begin the process of sorting our list in preparation for the actual Award Ceremony.

*applause and cheers. The figure reenters the doors, which close.*

R1: And there you have it folks--from the head of the Commission himself! I'm reporter1, live from in front of the Great Library. Back to you, NA.

    *cut back to studio*

NA: Thank you, R1. And now, in other news,...

    ----------

5007. You find yourself writing up big scripts like that.

5008. You miss the 1000 Reasons Awards Ceremonies since the last one was held after #2000.

    I'm waiting for the ceremony.

5011 - You think Civ2 should be part of the Olympic Games.

5012 - You think that Civ2 should be the only part of the Olympic Games.

5013: You have no idea what the white smoke mentioned in the news segment means.

5014: You are miffed that no one noticed that you revived the thread, or at least had the decency to thank you for it. (Just Kidding)

5015: You notice that this thread is kind of like the human heart. Once it stops, it takes only a little boost before it starts to beat away again.*

5016: You have no fear that your respect for life has deminished once you start thinking of this thread as alive.

5017: You start to devellop cateracts but don't care.

5018: Your cateracts has fully blinded you, but you know the computer so well that you no longer need to see the screen in order to play Civ 2.

5019: You make documentaries of your civ2 experience.

5020: You found the proffession of Civ2ology.

As of today, I have now been a member of CFC for two years! w00t!

5023. You take time to point that out.

5024. You find yourself wondering how Specialist could have wasted two whole years of his life on this thread.

5025. ...When that time obviously should have been used playing Civ2.

EDIT: On another note, checking some old records, Tuesday will also be the first anniversary of the posting of number 2000.
