2.62 Crash

I download and installed the newest version of rise of mankind and the patch.
The mod itself opens fine, but the game crashes to the desktop when it gets to the initialization stage of actually starting a game.
Any idea how i can fix this?

There seem to be a few people having this problem, as of last time I checked, Zappara said he was unable to reproduce it himself.

My own theory is that it may be a lack of memory - my own system is rather crappy - does anybody know the "minimum system requirements" for this mod?

See instructions how to enable logging from this thread and then post the logs so I can take a look at them. Game crashing at that point is likely to be caused by python error.

The game crashes to desktop when starting a new game, at the loading screen it finishes initializing and starts initializing graphics, for a brief moment before it crashes it goes back to saying that it is just initializing.
If it matters, it's a new installation of BTS that i've installed the mod to.

happened to me too .. I had forgot to re-install 3.17 after a fresh install...

I'm having a similar problem. Could anyone read my logs? Thanks in advance.
Only thing I noticed on your logs that "Mod loaded: None" was mentioned there but the game still had loaded all RoM python and xml files and the mod was installed correctly so I'm clueless why there is any problems...

Weird. :/ The only thing I know is that in the previous RoM version I couldn't start part of the games, and if I did they crashed quickly (most of the scenarios and the PerfectWorld script). Now, I can't start any...

With megapack 2.62 I got also problems with starting the game, in fact, while initializing the game.

See logs

Running in Vista, BTS3.17 installed

I had no problems with playing 2.62 (version without megapack)

For what's worth it, some extra info

- I deleted cache and ini-files except that civIV.ini
- I changed the name of the folder, then the standard BTS civs are loaded and it spawns XML-errors for the extra civilizations (which is normal behaviour I think)
- I once managed to start a custom game with the extra civs ... but I noticed I had much more choice in maps, ROM-maps and the normal maps (I think), furthermore I don't know how I managed to start that particular game.
- As far as I understand the logs, it seems there is a problem with CivAppInterface, after writing that line in the logs it crashes

@zappara

Please take a look at the attached logs.

System:
Win XP 32
Nvidia 9800 GT
2GB Ram
BTS 3.17
ROM 2.62

CTD when loading any game, on any map, in any size, on the initialising graphics phase.

Things to note in logs:

PythonErr Log: Seems Map related "Python function addBonusType failed" (This log error only apparent in ROM_Balanced Map)
PythonErr2 Log: last log "load_module CvAppInterface"

Appreciate your help King Zap! Thanks in advance.

Nothing odd in the logs so again this one is bit hard to track down. Few things you could try: Disable Holy wars modules (see RoM concept pedia pages about Modules) and enable Static leaderheads module (only affects 50 BtS default leaderheads) and also try different graphics settings. With RoM you can only use mapscripts which start with prefix 'RoM_'. Any other mapscript is likely to crash in initialization phase.

This looks like a problem with RoM_Balanced script so I'll have to test it out. Is there any other errors on other maps? Have you tried RoM's Custom Scenarios (pre-made maps)?

- Enabling Static leaderheads --> problem still occurs
- Setting Graphics to lowest --> problem still occurs

But how can I disable Holy wars, I didn't find an entry in the RoM concepts pedia pages.

Anyway, I keep trying with different options

@Zappara

Yes, I tried all combinations of preset and custom maps. Here are the logs for a preset map. I only have a map error on ROM-Balanced Map. No other map errors for any other map type in any game type so there are two issues here. The ROM_Balanced Map type in a custom game and the failure for the game to initialise past the CvAppInterface in any game.
I wish I could be of more help. Let me know if there are any other tests I can perform.

Thanks

UPDATE: Ok, amazing, I got a game to start. See Logs2. I set a custom game on a small continents map. I musn't have tried this combo before. I noticed the NZ flag was missing from my units etc but appeared normal otherwise. I've since tried other map sizes on the continents map and have had no success. See Logs 3 for standard size continent map. I hope you can draw some conclusions from comparing logs 2 and 3.

Well, I can confirm,

For Earth2 map, I can play in small world size, I've especially chosen Megapack civs.
So it seems it is a memory problem, on standard map I had several times a memory allocation error :(

It seems rather strange because I'm running on 2GB RAM Intel Core Duo 2.33ghz which is not that bad I think

After 1 hour of tweaking my Vista and shutting down some unused services I managed to start a game on a large Earth2 map on lowest graphic settings.

Maybe a challenge if you could lower (video???) memory usage somewhere somehow? ;)

You must be right, memory. Im only running a Dual Core 2.4ghz, its just strange because I can play other large maps in other mods like 'giant earth map' for example. I already have the graphics lowered though I could go further with the screen resolution I suppose. I will also try shutting down anti virus but there's not much else running. I feel if the game could just pass the initial memory 'spike' it will play ok. I'll give it a try.

Runtime error at start !
when the map is creating I get that error. (we are 3 geting same error)
ati 2900
ati 4870

everything fine with 2.62 without megapack

OFFCOURSE I am running english. and this is the same probleme on 3 pc. all running intel (1 quad and 2 dual core) all with ati card 1 2900 and 2 4870, both with 512 meg video ram. all pc with over 3gig ram. all got last ati driver, latest bios ...

We can play 2.62 without megapack with no prob. but impossible to creat a map (single or multi player) with the mega pack.
OFFCOURSE the "old" 2.62 is deletted from the mod folder.
we have read the readme offcourse.

need your help on that one Zappara :D

Only problem I saw in logs 2 and 3 was the line:

[7578.781] VERSION: Mod Loaded: none

There should be Mods\Rise of Mankind instead of none. It's a mystery for me why the game doesn't seem to load the mod correctly even though all the other log files seem to be as they should be (no errors). So it seems that the game doesn't initialize the mod correctly... which could be caused by a problem with dll file or with python.
