Is that in addition to the other warnings or do they spare us some of the steps illustrated below:

To be honest, the couple of old DVDs I have at home don't have unskippable trailers. And I don't think I have that many government warnings either ... but I didn't buy US-DVDs either.

Found that picture just now and it was too good not to share. Are US-DVDs really that tedious to watch?

In the past, whenever I bought I DVD, I would copy it to another disk just to get rid of all that crap. I think that this dude exaggerates a bit, but its not that far off from the truth, either. Short of copying out the unskippable crap, you end up just having to turn it on, mute the volume, walk away and get your food and drink together or otherwise do something else for roughly five or ten minutes before you can watch your movie. It is THAT BAD. I haven't bought a DVD is years now, though. I just don't want their products, at this rate.

They can be. It depends on the video and all that jazz.

The solution is easy: just grab your beer while all that unskippable nonsense is loading up.

the link was censored because you kids can't be trusted to survive the pain of having to read a word the rhymes with 'bullshlit'. :mischief:

Actually it was this one I was going for - he's done at least three on how annoying DVDs are though.

Fast-forwarding is not quite the same as skipping.

Maybe not but I used to have a VHS player that allowed you to enter a time code and it would automatically fast forward to that point on the tape - depending on the wind speed it really didn't take that long.

my father bought a dvd player once. really cheap with no features at all!
it didn't even have a remote control!

but on the plus side, you could simply insert a (bought) dvd and it started playing the movie immediately.
Since it's apparently technically possible, I wonder if there are firmware hacks for various players out there to add that cool functionality.

On Blu-Rays the warnings and previews can be skipped most of the time, but it depends on the Blu-Ray. On a Disney Blu-Ray, you get a screen that says "Press Top Menu to skip all the previews". Other Blu-Rays have a short screen that says "Thank You" for buying the disc.

One thing I noticed is that they started putting in the FBI warnings in Blu-Rays sold in Britain.

It's for that reason I almost never buy DVD's. I do occasionally buy Blu-rays though, because 1080 HD quality films tend to fill up my hard-drives pretty fast while easily taking twice as much time to download as DVD quality rips.

Well, sure, if it's an American movie, we have the right to protect our IP worldwide. In fact, I hear there's a massive DVD bootlegging operation in Iran, and there's talk of going to war over it.
