Today France celebrates the 200th anniversary of the birth of Victor Hugo, one of the most acclaimed writers of all time. Writer, philosopher and politician, he surelly has is name indelibly bound with the XIX century. Never a writer was so acclaimed while was still alive (in his 80th birthday, more than 1 million people invaded Paris and the street where he lived to pay homage to him
).
Born in a a wealthy family, he renounced everything that was against his beliefs. Because of that he spent almost two decades in exhile and was considered a champion of the people.
But, he will allways be remembered for his books and the characters he created. The vast majority of the people never read any, but who does not know Jean Valjean and Javert, Quasimodo and Esmeralda?
I leave here my small tribute to Victor Hugo.
PS. He was also a visionary. His utopia about the day when Europe would have a single currency has already come true. We'll see about the other one: the United States of Europe...
