2011 MLB Thread

Aaaaaaand now they don't. Where did that offensive outburst come from?!!?

It's only one game and you guys have the harder schedule. But that was just one blip in the whole scheme of things. :D

should be a nice 4 game set out there. looking forward to it :)

there has been talk lately on the phils gameday radio network about how halladay will not face SF at all in the regular season. some are saying it's by design while others are saying co-inky-dink. imho, it's just the way the rotation was set up post all-star break which was, in effect, the product of bochy starting Doc and then tossing Clifton Phifer for a few frames. lots of negative talk about bochy in philly too re throwing the phils pitchers and not using the SF ones during the game. this argument is a yawner for me. i probably would have used the phils guys too, mainly b/c they are formerly of the AL and know the hitters better than say lincecum or cain. fair enough. right?

Clifton Phifer Lee was at it again last night :) i wonder what Owen's roommate had to say about this one :p

Lee was very good last night but the defense was incredible. Polanco probably stole 2 runs from the Giants that game.

i was reading some stats the other day about +/- run totals for the season for teams. it calculated the total runs a team's offense scored so far this year and the run yielded by their staff, sort of like a +/- for hockey. phils, boston, yanks all in the plus and each over 100. SF came in at +3 iirc. very surprised. i know their offense is lacking but those pitchers, i thought, would have kept that number higher into the black. i was wrong. another stat was total runs yielded by staffs and remarkably, SF was something like 40 runs higher than philly. surprising. i still think SF has the best staff from A-Z. but that offense is killing them. saw that they scored 8 runs at home the other day against Arizona and it was their highest run total at home this season. Hard To Believe, Harry.

In the Bay Area, we call the Giants "torture" for a reason. Every game is 1 or 2 runs, down to the late innings, total stress inducing nail biters. Exhibit A is how we beat ATL last year in the playoffs.

The Giants had the record for one run wins last year and I think this year they are on pace to beat it.

Well tonight Phils game was interesting to say the least. What is the Giants beef with Victorino?

Visa Calls Indians To Confirm They Actually Did Intend To Take On More Salary
CLEVELAND—According to Indians team sources, an investigator within the fraud department of Visa phoned Cleveland owner Larry Dolan Thursday to discuss unusual activity on the team’s credit card—a $2.8 million purchase of Rockies pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez. “I immediately flagged the account and asked Mr. Dolan if he recently bought anything in Colorado,” said the investigator, adding that the irregularity caught the attention of his department because, according to Visa’s records, Dolan rarely spends any money around this time of year. “He usually just deposits several million dollars at the beginning of every August. But to be honest, it was spending that kind of money on a guy who is 6-9 with a 4.46 ERA that made us think the card had been stolen.” Visa also contacted Cubs owner Joseph Ricketts, not in regard to any recent account activity, but just to yell at him for (messing) up another season

Well at least that "good but not great" pitcher managed to throw down a very solid start and prevent the Giants from that shame of getting swept at home.

Since when is Tim Lincecum no longer a great pitcher?
All things considered I'd rather have him than any other pitcher in the majors on my team...
He's got everything you could possibly want in a pitcher and he's still only 27 years old.

I find it rather funny that the Phillies and the Giants have a bit of a mini-rivalry thing going on right now.

If your team fired that A-hole of catcher that taunted Victorino on purposely and told the pitcher to plunk him then I would be perfectly fine with the Giants. Until that happens I will hope that they won't make the playoffs.

Ah, right...

Well, I guess Manuel misheard the question or that he was conciously trying to stir up something, 'cause if he truly believes that Lincecum is not a great pitcher then he has no business managing an MLB team.....

 Owen, you're worrying about what some mgr said 3,000 miles away? lincecum has won a few CYAs. why fret? you should be worrying about that offense and the fact that Arizona is breathing down the Giants' neck. beltran is overrated and so far, he surely has not made any difference. i would take pence over beltran a thousand times over.

I believe it was because Rollins stole a base while up like 5 or 6 runs. Bush league... just throw him out at second instead of plunking the batter  .

i kind of got the impression that that ramirez kind of took it upon himself to nail vic. by that i mean that the first impression is that it was not ordered from the bench. i mean, it was 1st pitch, and rollins had just vicked the bag. would like to see a replay from the SB attempt up to that tool whiteside calling the next pitch. maybe he called it. not sure. but i do know that ramirez is not an illegal alien and that the giants lost some luster this weekend...
