2020 US Election (Part One)

No, but if we're going to present Gabbard as different (anti-war) from the US standard while her statements/meetings/etc., are the same, then she really isn't any different, and this whole argument falls apart.

Only that she is openly anti-war. Claiming she has the same position as centrist dems is just not in touch with reality. Bombing runs against Isis/Nusra etc aren't against a state, cause those areas are currently controlled by Isis and Nusra.

Of course Bernie is even more anti-war, but Bernie is to be potus, not UN ambassador or secretary of state.

I guess the Vietnam War also never happened, since there was no formal declaration of war

Obama was certainly more restrained than Clinton (both of them :) ), though.

I dont know that Bill ran around toppling governments, his sin was keeping us in Saudi Arabia to enforce sanctions on Iraq. That and George Bush's continuation of the Iraq sanctions gave us 9/11. But Obama found a way to make the situation worse, I assume with Biden's support.

Kosovo ;)

Didn't a few Greeks go and help out the Serbs and go into battle with the Byzantine flag?

Bombing runs against them is why we currently are building bases throughout northern Africa and are engaged in military campaigns in 7 countries in the Middle East and Africa. It's the main thrust of our military expansion right now, controlling groups like that by just flying and bombing anywhere we want. Unless we have someone who actually approaches that area with a new mindset, which Gabbard doesn't, it's going to be 95% the exact same military policy.

As to the whole "nominate a white guy" point, this appears to be what the Dem base has convinced itself, but it's going to get Dems a nail biter loss. The path to victory and winning the midwest again is literally one of two things:

A) turn out more black voters in Detroit, Flint, Philadelphia, Cleveland (although Ohio is unwinnable probably)
B) Turn out white women in suburbs in places like Lansing, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee

Biden does neither of those things. He doesn't excite the two groups we most need as a path to victory. And one year of negative campaigns about his gaffs, racism, creepiness, is going to turn away a lot of young black voters, soccer moms, and college students, the very people we need to turn out to win. Black primary voters, middle class white primary voters, etc., etc., are already in the bag and will vote no matter what. Biden is going to have exactly the same deflationary effect on the inconsistent voters that Hillary had.

We all laughed our ass off when Michael Avenetti said Dems need to nominate an old white guy and called him a dummy, and yet the Dems have actually backed themselves into thinking he was totally right. Just an incredible self own by Dem voters.

Imagine a black Biden.
Ask yourself if he would be less trash than the white Biden.
Now imagine a black female Biden. Oh wait, you already have Kamala :p

I'm genuinely kind of surprised she's doing so poorly. I thought she was Biden's biggest threat, but that appears to be Warren now. There's still time, but she just hasn't caught on at all. I'd say it's her cop baggage, but Biden has 1000000 times the baggage. Maybe it's that white dudes with baggage, like Biden, get forgiven way easier. Maybe it's that she truly doesn't have the name appeal she needs. Maybe being from California and not "real America" hurts. I don't know.

Kamala is at fourth place, after Biden, Bernie and Warren. Even with help from the DNC and media, she is polling at 8%, which still imo is way too high for her.

According to the most recent data I can find Biden is at 53% among black primary voters with Sanders next at 8%, Harris third with 7%.

It's hard to see him losing the primary with that kind of support. That's borderline seemingly insurmountable for anyone else.

I read an article that said there is historical precedent for it. Black voters backed Hillary Clinton early and then shifted to Obama massively and very quickly when he won the Iowa caucuses. Something similar could happen with Harris, though I don't see black people defecting to Warren or Bernie in large numbers no matter what happens.

How funny will it be, though, if Biden wins the nomination primarily because of black voters, to read all the woke takes about how the Democratic party has betrayed black people?

Still, the Media is expecting Biden to drop out sometimes. Maybe it's just that someone starting in the lead and finishing in it is just a very bad story and doesn't keep much interest (especially with clownish Trump on the other side). So they write and hope that someone else can challenge him. I still believe and hope Biden will produce a huge gaffe sometimes or the Fall debates with fewer persons on stage will allow the #2-6 in the race to get more votes.

But really, Trump versus Biden would be a sad and boring election fight. Enough with the old white (boring) dudes.

(Sanders may be old, but he's not boring, a lot of the <1% candidates are)

The problem is I don't see the supporters of all the petty candidates polling with a few percent or less coalescing behind one of Biden's challengers. Going through the list it seems likely that the supporters of many of the candidates will default to Biden when their guy (or gal) drops out, with the exception that I would expect a lot of the Yang Gang people to switch to Mayor Pete.

edit: there was also a good piece in the Baffler recently making the case that Marianne Williamson for all her talk of the politics of love is really just a huckster repackaging standard conservative bootstrap-moralism as New Age wisdom.

Marianne comes across as a fruitcake. No one really cared about her anyway.

She's a reflection of Trump and I want to dismiss her out of hand but don't because, well, we all dismissed Trump as well.
