25 year anniversary?

So as @Spoonwood just led me to remember, according to the about page we're coming right up on the 25th anniversary of the forums - or of the original CFC page, it's not clear which. Edit: reading further shows March 2000 was the origin of the forums and the current name


Are there any plans for a CFC silver jubilee? 25% off affiliate links? 25 new smilies? 25 clues you've spent too long at CFC?

Ditto, 15 years Wednesday. Youtube is only site I've been on longer continuously (~2007/2008), but the magic's gone. Not that anyone could've expected better in hindsight. Fundamental difference between social media and more intimate communities like message boards.

But on a more sober note: happy 25th anniversary. First time I visited this site I was in my first year at university... Only made an account after graduation.

I got Civ III for Christmas that year, and that probably spurred me onto joining.

Ah, I had not noticed that the "first post" was dated October 25. I got the March date from the "in the good old days" section at the bottom of the about page:

After we moved the site to Strategy Gaming Online in March 2000, the site was renamed to Civilization Fanatics’ Center. The CivFanatics site you see today really started after the move because server space is no longer a problem. We didn’t have a downloads section and forums before the move.

I assumed this all happened at once, but it only says the forum and renaming came after the move. There are a few possible interpretations:

- The move happened first, and the rest literally afterwards
- It all happened at once, but the first forum was later replaced with the "UBB forum" as referenced above
- The dates of one or the other were mixed up at some point in a later migration

Perhaps someone with a longer memory could enlighten us

It's actually a bit complicated...
We've actually prepared a retrospective, which is like 90% done, but then the hack and the server problems and the forum problems prevented that this got done.
We still plan to do it, but maybe targeting October might be better
