After they were informed of the conclustions Cheetah drew from an impromptu investigation of GCA cities, Apolytonian Consul MrWhereItsAt specifically requested the screenshots from which those conclustions were drawn.

The screenshots in question are in the Turn 130 thread.

We'll poll this quickly on the advice of FA Minister Zarn. You have 24 hours. Vote.

Did someone forget to include a poll? :p

Edit: Or we could just take it by post.

I for one see no reason not to give it to them, so I vote yes..

Nope. Their request only included the screens taken then.

But, I'll vote yes. If we get something from them, that is...

We might ask for partial funding if we are at it. I wouldn't have told them about our investigation like Octavian did.

I also wonder why are they asking for the shots. Don't they believe us?

I vote yes anyway. (Try to get some money for our trouble ;))

I wouldn't give it to them.

Something is fishy about the way in which they are always asking things from us. Sure they say were knee deep in friendship, but are we really that way.

I know this doesn't make sense, but this reminds me of WW2.

CDG (France, Poland) falls. CFC (alllied powers that survived attacks) ready to gain ground, GCA(NAZIS) severely weakened, Poly (USSR) ready to create a large 'buffer' zone. The relationships of each nation seem to go the same way. CDG and CFC were close, Poly was even late to denounce GCA and delcare war.

That probally makes no sense, but I think Poly as a very distant ally at times. Sure Trip is nice, but when your both at war with the same nation, who isn't?

Maybe I'm not thinking straight, but I wouldn't trust a nation so huge and a site that had usually rivaled ours...

The next few turns would determine how much of an ally they really are.

If we were going to give them these, then we should definately get something back in return.

Then ask if they can pay a symbolic amount of gold for the screenies. Something to compensate our investigations.

Actually Zarn, you make a lot of sense. I believe we're acting as niavely towards Poly as we did towards GCA. Maybe that's our destiny....to give everything away. Then again Oct maybe that double agent I mentioned before. ;)

I saw no reason to tell them about our find (at least before Oct asked permission to give it away) and I see no reason now to give it to them. Maybe we should just tell Oct to offer Poly all our bases and quit. Ya never know, Poly just might like that. ;) After all, the object of this is to make Poly happy, right?

Yes, I'm also a little suspicious on this... Wonder why...

Poly really has been a bit weird asking things, and what do they do with that info? Are they planning a surprice attack on us after GCA has been destroyed and they want BoP and those other cities for military basess before they attack?

First of all, why in God's name was this information even divulged to Poly in the first place?

This shows not only a blatant disregard for the secrecy of the information within this forum, but a loyalty to a foreign power that causes this citizen to have sincere doubts as to your dedication to this team, Octavian.

This is totally unexcusable, and not the first time that it has happened. If I were in a position of power, I'd propose a motion to censure you, possibly worse. If we had PIs in this game, I'd call for one. I'm so mad right now, I can't hardly keep my fingers from typing so fast as to make no sense of what I'm trying to say.

Why don't we just surrender all our cities to Poly and be done with it? Or better yet, just give them access to this forum so we can spare them the hassle of having to ask you for the information.

PS. I'd say No to this idea, but I don't see the point. I'd wager dollars to doughnuts that they already have those screenshots.

Article N. The President, Vice President, all Ministers, and Justice of the Court may delegate their powers as they see fit by creating and appointing citizens to Offices.

If any citizen is discontent with the way an office is carrying out it's duties, he may request that the official executing the duties of that office be removed. If two more citizens second the request for removal, the request becomes a demand, and the Minister/President/Vice President/Chief Justice must post a poll lasting two days on the furutre of the office in question. If a simple majority votes in favor of removal, the official executing the duties of that office is removed.

There you go, Forty. Oct has done this before. Even as just an ambassador, he has done this.

Hell. I'll do it. I have accused Octavian X of being a double agent before and for good reason. This kind of action only confirms my beliefs.

I request Octavian's removal from office. We might also want to bannish him to Polyland. Loose lips sink ships...

If removal from office is the only punishment afforded us in the constitution for this behavior, then I will second this motion.

I do not think that Poly has any intention of making a surprise attack against us after GCA falls. I also don't see how this information could allow them to do that; the only thing I can see is that Poly might use it to attack them in the west before we can take all their cities there. However, I do think we should start excersing some caution; we need to be on the lookout for anything that could compromise our security. Therefore, my vote on this is Abstain.

I must also register my opposition and disappointment to this motion to remove Octavian from office. Oct, I am very sure, is just as loyal to our team as anybody else. He is not trying to compromise our security by divulging information to Poly, I'm sure he is doing this only as a sign of friendship and alliance with Poly. Refusing their requests may annoy them, make them feel that we are not truly their allies, and perhaps even make them want to attack us. However, Octavian, I do ask that you are more careful in the future about disclosing information to Poly and put it up for discussion whether we want to disclose the information or not, including such things as the lack of GCA forces in the west.

As large as Apolyton is compared to us, I see no reason for us to give up info that would help to make them even larger.

The way I see it, we are on shaky ground no matter what we do here. If we give up the screenies, then Poly will stand to gain from them and become even stronger. If we don't, we risk damaging our alliance. We are the next target on Apolyton's list, regardless of how nice they are at this point. Toying with them now will only bring that day closer.

That said, don't give up the screenshots unless they are able to give us compensation. Then, plan for border protection after a GCA demise. We need to make sure that we aren't limping into GCA's last city, or else we leave ourselves vulnerable to our "allies."

I am very perturbed at the current state of affairs that our Ambassadorial office to Apolyton is in. We seem to JUMPING at the chance to divulge all possible, information and secrets. Are they doing the same for us? No!

We must stop acting like the little kid brother who wants the attention of the older brother. Lets grow up and be independent damn it!

Octavian, please in the future do not inform foreign nations of confidential information.

As Justice of the Court (wow, I get to do something!), I see little to warrant a complete exile of Octavian. All that he has done to damage our position is by giving Poly some screenies of some backwater GCA cities. By the time the Poly Empire spans to this region, these cities will ethier be ours or not exist. Further, I think that Octavian's actions were out of friendship with Poly, not some sort of malicious plan to sabotage the CFC team.
The only punishment warranted is a stern warning. Anything else is enflamed, parinoid scape goating. Octavian should come to the Administration first, get confirmation, then offer whatever it is to Poly.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

This is not the first time that this has happened, and the damage in this instance is substantial:
  • We had an opportunity to put on a show of strength for Poly. By attacking the western towns with great success (no matter how poorly they were defended - Poly wouldn't need to know that detail), we would give Poly some pause when considering an attack against us. Not only is this no longer an option, we are now actually displaying great weakness because we are still reluctant to invade despite the obvious lack of defenses.
  • By revealing the lack of defenses in Balance of Power, Poly now sees an opportunity to take that town (sooner than we could, mind you) rather than continue against potentially stiffer resistance at other towns. If they had any intention of letting us take Balance of Power for ourselves, it has likely vanished at this point.
I don't think any in-fighting such as this will be healthy for our nation, but I am deeply hurt by this blatant lack of judgement by one of our most esteemed members to date. Not only that, but having himself reprimanded other ambassadors in the past for lesser transgressions, Octavian should have known better.
