Well, first off I'm a new poster. I didn't wanna ress any old threads so I'll just start a new one.

My son and I were playing a multi-player game of Warlords (Civ 4 Gold) when I noticed something wierd with leader bonuses and unit build times.

Specifically playing as russian.

Cathrine is suppose to give a 50% faster Production of Settlers

Peter is suppose to give a 50% faster production of Workers

Problem is build time for both leaders are 25 for settler and 15 for worker in the starting city. What happened to the 50% faster *****?? it appears to not be doing anything.

You get 50% extra :hammers:

It means, if you building a Setler and work a forest/plain tile your setler get 1 :food: and 3 :hammers:, instead of 1 :food: and 2 :hammers:

It doesn't give any bonus for food, so build your Setler/Worker with as much :hammers: as possible.

1 :food:, 2 :hammers: is better then 2 :food:, 1 :hammers:

The 50% bonus applies to the Hammers used to build the units. But excess Food is used to build those units as well, and that doesn't get any bonus. This can really impact the very early game, since before you improve hills with mines, it's likely you'll be using primarily Food to build the units.

BTW, if you let the computer decide what tiles are worked by your city's people, it sometimes won't pick them to optimize the 50% bonus. Manually assigning them might shave some turns off.

For example, say a size 1 city built on a "regular" tile (i.e. not a plains hill or resource) generates 2F/1H.

If your citizen works a floodplain, he'll be adding an additional 3F. After subtracting the food he eats, you'll be applying 3F/1H to producing a worker/settler. The 50% bonus to the 1H will get rounded down, so you really gain nothing by being Catherine/Peter.

Now if that citizen were to work Plains tile, he'd add 1F/1H. Which would provide 1F/2H for producing worker/settler with most leaders. But with a 50% bonus to the hammers, you'd actually be providing 1F/3H.

About the only way to get a real bang out of the 50% bonus with this very small town would be if you could work a forested, plain hill. This would generate 0F/6H for settler/worker production after bonus. Which is significantly better than a 2F/1H or a 3F/1H option that might be the best a different leader could get.

I don't understand? How can that be when settlers don't "work" anything. The only thing they do is make a new city.

**Edit**

NM. the other post made sense :) (I think) lol.

Oh, BTW, the absolute best way to maximize this bonus to ensure that 'chops' go to building workers/settlers (whichever one gets the bonus), since all the benefit of 'chops' is converted to Hammers.
