500 turns 450 of war

I'm about 500 turns into an epic game and have only just researched riflemen. The game is great, although it has its flaws.

For the last 450 or so turns, I've had nothing but war with one of the AI. Is this something I'm doing? I just simply spend my time rushing from border to border to defend against an attack. I don't have a weak army and so far no one has managed to launch a succesful invasion. I'm just getting annoyed with constantly having to defend myself and was wondering if there was something I could do, or is this simply how the AI behaves?

I've been in a game where England has been at war with me for over 1000 years in the AD era. I know exactly what my problem is: I thought I could hide behind Germany on a Fractal map (King difficulty), but it turns out England planned on eating Germany for a snack and then going after me.

Fortunately, I've been holding her off despite being a tier behind her (going for 3 city culture with Ghandi -- I would have won it by now if I had just kept peace).

If it was that simple I would have done it already. Whenever I make an advance someone else attacks me, forcing me to rush back to re-conquer my fallen cities. Plus I can't conquer too much because of the

I don't really want to win a domination or conquest victory, I wanted to try for a UN victory this time.

Even in Civ 4, recipes didn't work too well. You play the cards your delt, or regen the map.
Now in your defense, the AI does seema bit war happy in general.
