Again, that's still the biggest mistake you made. Pulling numbers entirely out of thin air & memory here, so the specifics may be wrong, but the general theory holds. I'll assume an average of 4 commerce per tile, and from memory uni & library are +50% science, cope's & newton's +100%. Size 12 with those 4 generates 52 base commerce, +300% bonus, giving you 208 science per turn at 100%, 104 science and 26 base cash at 50/50 sci/tax. Size 21 with lib, uni, cope's and shake's gives you 88 base commerce, +200% bonus, giving you 264 science at 100%, 132 science + 44 base cash. That's approx 25% more science, 70% more cash, and also 70% more shields, resulting in builds completing 40% faster. So a 20 turn wonder will now take only 12 turns. Plus the possible added bonus of specialists. It's also 8cpt to 6. And you can still go for Newton's, and probably research Economics so you still have the 3cpt backup of smith's.

So why not try and build them in the 20k city? Great wall can still help you to 20k, it will probably be good for a minimum of 500 culture.

I'm still curious about your tech position. Were you tech leader throughout the MA/IA? Or trailing behind the whole way? If you were leading, then the tech rate will slow dramatically if you simply direct your research better, fast to get good wonders, slow it down elsewhere. If you were behind, 1600 for space is amazingly quick.

There was one or two civs that were about equal with me and I had to trade back and forth. My trade balance was pretty good though as I demanded per turn gold from most of the civ. I know I made some build errors.

How did you get those calculations with 12 and 21 size cities? Shakespeare's just make 8 citizens content in the city, does it not?

Actually its 1675 and the English have just gotten space flight so the race has begun. I build the UN in 3 turns and its game over.

Anyways, I remember wrong what wondering I was able to build in my main city. They were at 1675:
    Hanging Gardens
    Great Wall
    Great Library
    Observatory
    Newton's college
    Hoover Dam
    Theory of Evolution
    SETI Program

I was eventually able to build cure for cancer in the city too, but as you can see, the english and another civ soon began building the spaeship and I had to get diplo victory.

    Here's the save.

I also didn't explore that much early on--another great mistake.

Correct. In C3C, Shakespeare's also lets the city it's in grow past size 12, which is what sanabas is talking about. But in vanilla/PtW, it's not nearly as exciting. So if you can only get one of the two, Newton's probably is a better choice.

Yeah, I have just Vanilla Civ3 so I figured Newton's was more important.

It does? In that case, oopsie, please ignore me. In C3C Shake's also lets you grow past size 12. I thought it did that in vanilla/ptw too, but apparently I'm wrong. Shake's isn't too important then.

trading back and forth like that is one of the best ways to keep up a fast tech pace. Trading & researching a bit more selectively to minimise cascades, maximise your wonder chances will slow the tech pace, the extra cash from doing less research yourself should let you pay to keep up in tech.

It's a long way from just getting space flight to launching a spaceship. And you'll have modern wonders to build too. Plus you might have earlier wonders doubling in culture, 20k is probably still a possibility for you. And a new game with a slightly better build priority early in the game and a slightly slower tech pace will probably reach 20k easily.

Yeah, I need to avoid the tech trading but sometimes when I research straight to theory of gravity(for college) and someone else reaches another critical wonder advancement before me, I don't have much choice except trading.

As you can tell, I prebuild alot which helps but with such a fast tech pace, it hard to build everything.

Thanks for the advice, I will try again.
