[.621 + 1.135] UI- City Screen tooltips beneath right panel

I am using nvidia gtx 260, windows 7 64, and running in DX 10/11

When i am viewing the city screen, the mouse over tooltips for the rightside panels appear behind the panel. That is to say, the tooltips to describe my great people, buildings, and citizen management are hidden behind the semi transparent panel on the right.

The lefthand panel tooltips behaves correctly.

First, if you haven't already done so, I highly recommend that you update your nvidia driver. A recent update (260.99) addressed some specific Civ 5 issues. If that doesn't help, or you already had the most recent version, please post a screenshot and a save file. Thanks!

My screenshot shows a normal tooltip. Perhaps this is a bug in your video card? I'll move this thread to the confirmed bugs forum. It might be helpful if you posted your DxDiag file too. Thanks!

My setup is a little bit different from an ordinary one, so I can see why this problem might exist. I have nvidia 3dvision, but I dont run civ5 in stereo.

I have this problem since the very beginning.
I join a screenshot...

The mouse cursor and tooltips appear below some of the panels. Which makes it very difficult to click on buttons and read the informations from the tooltip.

Concerned panels :
- In the city screen, to the right, buildings/citizens
- In the city screen, the civilization icon upper-left (under Golden age)
- On main screen, the science advancement information upper-left

Oh absolutly, Nvidia 3D Vision here too. The problem occurs with or without 3D activated.
My driver has been updated 15 days ago, so it's fairly recent.

That must be the cause.

Same problem here and I'd like to add some information, hoping that this would finally get fixed someday.


I. The specs
I have an AMD Phenom II, GTX 560 Ti 448 cores, Win 7 64 and - probably the only thing that matters - an Nvidia 3D Vison 2 kit. Running in DX 10/11. More detailed specs are in dxdiag files in the attached archive. Drivers are updated as they come out.

II. The attachment
I've attached an archive with a bunch of screenshots, a saved game and dxdiag dumps. The there are two kinds of screenshots - simple jpg images and stereoscopic jps images (taken with nvidia's hotkeys). If you can't view the latter in 3D, they can be opened with a regular image viewer (IrfanView worked for me) and be seen as a side by side pair, or you can probably view them in an anaglyph form.

III. Regarding what fe2o3 said about not running civ5 in 3D
If I disable the stereoscopic mode in the Nvidia control panel, the curson and tooltips are displayes normally. If the mode is enabled and I switch the 3D mode on and off by pushing the button on the emitter - the problem persists.

IV. I think I see how the problem occurs
In 3D mode the world view is rendered in 3D and the UI panels are rendered in 2D and placed above the world. Now the cursor and the associated tooltip is rendered in 3D if it's over the world view and in 2D when over the UI panels or at least it's supposed to. It seems that with some panels it is incorrectly rendered in 3D and thus appears behind the panel. On the screenshots that I have the 2D cursor is not visible, only the tooltip if it's there. The 3D cursor IS visible. I don't know the inner workings of this rendering, so it's hard to tell for sure if the bug is on Civilizations's or on Nvidia's part, but it seems to be the former. If so - it's probably only a matter of finding out why some panels make the cursor render incorrectly and fixing it. At least I hope so.

V. The actual spots (with the names of screenshots)
City view - right panel (city_right_bug1)
You can actually see 2 cursors in stereomode (city_cursor, city_right_bug2)
Left panel is ok for comparison and if the screenshot would show the cursor, you'd see that it's in 2D (city_left_normal)
City view - Resource Demanded panel (city_resource_demanded_bug)
world view tech panel (world_tech_bug1)
It gets more weird if the tech list is open. Now the cursor is ok on the tech panel when ABOVE the tech list (world_tech_normal),
but still buggy when it's a bit to the right (world_tech_bug2)
Can't confirm what OzoneGrif wrote about Golden age, but it's probably the same thing.
I've checked some other panels avaliable to me at the time, didn't find any other spots but they very well may exist.

Sorry to bump a very old thread, but I've been having the exact same issues. I updated Java (not sure whether that was needed or not) and I disabled stereoscopic 3D in my NVIDIA Control Panel. I think the stereoscopic thing is what did it! I can see my tooltips now, yay!
