Welcome to the 128th game in the 6OTM Series! These games will allow new and old GOTM fans to try out the new features in Civ6 in a friendly environment. Participants are encouraged to post questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads (described below). Each game will specify the Civ you will play and the Victory Condition to strive for. We will be working to refine the 6otM concept as we move ahead with the series. Gifting of cities is an exploit in a religious VC as the AI cant see that it will lose if it accepts the cities.

Must Read!
We would like to ask you to abide by our most sacred rule: Don’t replay any turns! If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. To ensure fair play and prevent results exclusions, please set your Autosaves to 1 turn. In the event of a computer crash while playing, just reload to the previous save and play it as closely to how you played it the first time. Please let Leif know (via Conversation (Private Message)) if you experienced a crash and how many turns you replayed.

Boring.

Honestly, I don't really know why you guys are trying to create games of the kind where the Civs are unsuitable for the VCs, or the map is unsuitable for that. Or the capital has a pretty bad spot. I understand some of the expert players are nagging for challenges. But I believe challenges like these are not fun for everyone. In fact, we can start a random game and have different kind of unsuitability for the Civ we chose. I think the last properly made game was 125. Please continue that earlier trend as those games were really fun to play. The experts of the game can keep the challenge as they previously did, like finishing the game quicker than others, or with better scores, etc.

Sorry to hear you feel that way, but glad you enjoyed 6otM125. Attempt to make a mix of games.

I recommend you reconsider this one as it is designed with a Civ that is in my opinion very suitable for the culture victory condition. Thermopylae is an incredible way to boost culture - it can be used against only barbarians if you don't want to war with other civs or can be used against the AI to keep them weak while you advance quickly down the culture tree. With barbarians likely to be in the Mediterranean there is lots of culture to earn via ship combat. Decreasing returns later in the game when your culture is high, but a massive advance early and middle game. The half-cost Acropolis is another fast way to advance on the culture tree. An extra wildcard policy slot gives you lots of options.

The starting location on this map can be tricky, but since it is a known, fixed design map (TSL Europe), you can google the map to provide additional info. (The unknowns will be which civs are in the game and which 9 of 11 CS's are in the game.) Knowing more about the base map than normal leads to a starting area that is better than it initially looks with 4 debatable places to settle your capital - I'd generally say not SIP, but the 3 in range one and the 1 in range two all have merit. After a couple of techs are researched and the land developed by a worker, it can be pretty decent; but agree not as great as you generally get with most random starts. This map doesn't have a great starting position for any civ in my opinion.

That entire statement I gave wasn't specifically for this game. What I mean to say is that you the idea of bringing challenged these days has to bring some kind of weakness to our the leader we're playing, rather than an advantage that we used to play in previous games. In this game the weakness is by bad starting spot for capital. In the previous games there were others, like the civs unsuitable for the victory condition, etc.

Be frank, I appreciate you guys that make these Game of the months. Although I'm not posting my finished games back to you, I'm casually but regularly playing GoTM's since about Civilization III. That would be around 15 years I think. And I can't really know a proper way to appreciate the team of GoTM's for the fun I have received all these years. So you can see my intentions are only to provide you my feedback. It's not a complaint.

Now that you mentioned it, I realized what you mean. Maps like TSL Europe allows players to scout the map without scouting, just by getting the information online. So it's not bad that you brought forth something different. But on this also I want to present my input. Anyone can start a TSL Europe map and get the same location, and actually the same game.

I personally believe there would be more people like me who play GoTM's very casually and don't usually participate in the forums. But you might learn about them by the number of downloads of the game file. People like us love GoTM's because these are games we can't receive by randomly starting games ourselves. These are different, as well as fun. There is certain challenge, but also some kind of excitement on the map. What I'm requesting here, please in the future games keep that aspect of excitement. This was done in previous games regularly.

Thank you. And thanks a lot for making all these games. We all silent players also appreciate you as much as the active players. ;)

Agree that Gorgo is actually a pretty good leader for culture, albeit one who froces a bit of an aggressive playstyle.

I believe that GotM 127 was Hammurabi Science game? It was a pretty well suited leader in my opinion.

In terms of fun, there is often a lot of concealed challanges/amusements that go far beyond just leader/VC combination. As an example, GotM 129 puts you as the Cree in a Domination Victory. It might seem like an unrelated combination, but the map is constructed in a way that incentivizes you to embrace your Civs strenghts rather than just go the obvious route of rushing everyone with Legions or Immortals, as would other "better-suited" leaders do ;)
This isn't to say that the games are necessarily significantly more difficult, but rather designed in a way to encourage you to explore more options, keeping the experience fresh. Even so, the games are definitely not boring in my opinion.

Also, I think that you shouldn't jump to conlusions just from the first screenshot - even this very GotM has some interesting choices to be made and challanges to overcome :)
