I think I'll move the warrior to the ivory then decide if I'm settling on the ivory or where the warrior starts.
Yeah - this seems like one to definitely go diagonal and settle where the warrior is. Great growth to start, not terrible production with ivory and the 3/2 bananas one ring out, +4 harbor if you put a campus next to the reef, and you're one ring away from Paititi yields (plus could have at least a +4 HS if you want).
Deity is above my abilities usually, and I haven't played in a while, but I figure it is a good opportunity to revisit the VI and learn by doing.
Would it technically be possible to play the same start with a lower difficulty? I could never ever win on deity.
The difficulty cannot be changed, unfortunately. What you can do is give it a go and see how you fare. Then you can compare what you did to others that post and see where you could improve. If you do not understand something, please ask? One of our goals is to help you improve your game play!
Honestly, this might be a good one to try for a first deity win too. Spain is pretty strong, the start has tremendous yields (growth, production, money and culture from Paititi), coastal start makes it harder for your capital to get captured if you get early war, and the money from Paititi can let you buy an early galley (to up your garrison strength) or land troops to hold the line.
