Welcome to the 6otM193 After Actions Report (AAR) thread.

STOP - Please do not continue reading this thread until you have completed and submitted your game.

In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state your victory/loss turn/date (preferably in the post title) and describe your path to glory in this post! Please attach your victory save to your post. Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Please use spoiler tags for any surprise details you'd like kept hidden. Thank you.

If this is a replay, please indicate 'REPLAY' at the top of your post. If you conduct regular restarts, please indicate 'RELOADS' at the top of your post. More posting helps us all get play better as we understand the methods of others, but want to clearly distinguish between a first run through without reloads and other submissions as it is much harder to recover in game from the mistakes we all make.

Some questions to consider answering.

Turn 232 DV. Score 2050.

I settled the plains hills tile to the southeast to try to maximize production. I was a bit frustrated that the first few pastures that spawned did not have good spots for the Kurgans, but the next few cities I made better use of them. I planned to go domination victory, but using Crusader to make quick work of the first few civilizations. The Ottomans fell very early, and the Persians shortly after. Midgame I was a bit stifled by the vast distances, so I couldn't really reach the other civilizations easily. I did make use of some city state troops to keep up the pressure though. It works well with the healing trait of Tomyris. One other point of frustration was the lack of oil around my empire. It kept me from upgrading to troops that would make short work of the remaining civilizations, so I had to spend a little time just settling some spots with oil around the map. Probably bad planning on my part. Overall fun though, thanks!

- What was your plan for achieving the VC? What are the major steps you planned to take? What events, if any, changed the plan in execution and to what new plan? Any interesting decision points?
Pump military early on. Only settled one more city after capital, and produced enough troops to take down Cyrus. Then most of the time spent was for moving those troops to next opponent. Messed up at few places for choosing wrong path, but overall it worked.

- Where did you settle your capital and first few cities?
Settled Capital 1SE. Settled one more city at the shore at east. Then focused on capturing enemy cities rather than settling more. Settled one more city after taking Cyrus, mainly for creating a good city for Mausoleum at Halicarnassus.

- What were your initial 5-10 builds in the capital or other early cities?
Scout > Worker > Settler > Slinger > Slinger > (Got 3rd Slinger with Gold) > Warior > Warior > Warior.

- Early order for technology/civics? What did you prioritize for technology/civics?
Went for Crafsmanship by producing early worker so that I can have AGOGE Policy (+50 miltary units production) while in research focused on Archery.
Focused on everything military based early on. Researched Civic Military Tradition right after Craftsmanship.

- How did the leader bonus and civ unique ability impact your plan/play, if at all?
Saka Horse Archer was good. Fast + Double production was awesome. But I think the main difference came from the +5 attack bonus vs wounded units + healing up on killing a unit. Kurgan was pretty much useless. Made it only for Era Score.

- How many cities did you settle and/or capture?
In the whole games settled 12 cities (early game only 2) including capital. Captured 20 cities.

- What were key production/purchase focuses? Military units / Civilian units / Districts & city development / Wonders / Civ Unique Unit & Infrastructure? Most critical or interesting?
Once I had enough Military, I focused heavily on placing lots Commercial Hubs, as gold could be an issue and trade routes would be very helpful. Also placed some Campuses. But in the early game only my capital had the Encampment (which was the first district I made in the game)

- Pantheon chosen and why? Religious beliefs chosen, and why?
Chose Lady of the Reeds (+2 Production from Marsh & Oasis), which seemed to be good for this map. As Cyrus had built Etemenanki (which I captured early on), this made all the marshes pretty awesome to settle by.

- What governments did you select? What key policy cards did you use? Why?
Oligarchy > Monarchy (only for a little while) > Merchant Republic
AGOGE helped creating good number of troops for taking down Cyrus and Suleman.

- Which Governors were most important; when and why?
Magnus was extremely helpful early game. Later Liang and Pingala also played their part. Victor did the basic job in late game for taking down distant cities' loyalty issue. But other three didn't play any active role.

- Was diplomacy/trading useful? How? Relations with other civs?
No. Diplomacy/trading was useless this game.

- When did you have Dark/Golden ages?
All Golden Ages.

- How did the map affect your gameplay?
I think the map played the big role. Barbs were mush stronger than the opponent civilization. So they kept them weakened at military. They also gave me some trouble, but gave lot more to the opponents.

- Any surprises/frustration/elations you ran into, how did you deal with it?
Several surprise barbarian attacks, which kind of messed up my plan several times. Needed to pump extra units solely for fighting barb waves. Also built walls in most cities, as those felt better to deal with barbs rather than too many extra troops.

- Did you enjoy your game?
Yes. It was fun.

Thanks a lot for the game.
