Please remember that we are running a family friendly site, so express anger or frustration with this in mind. :)

Please use this thread to discuss your goals for the game and your opening moves through the first 100 turns. Anything after that should be posted in the After Actions thread once you have completed your game.

It was (almost) a perfectly timed war. Brazil decided to take on my good friend Fez, a fatal mistake as they ground their troops to dust against Fez' walls. During their fruitless war, Brazil started building Theater Squares in some of their outlying cities. I will protect you, Fez! Long after they needed protecting, but a nice 0 Grievance casus belli from Protectorate War.

My troops should have taken Rio but the RNG God frowned, instead leaving it with a sliver of health and Eleanor's bedraggled Horseman managed to take the city. It looks like it will flip free and I will take it in a 2 turn war, but it's slowing down the consolidation of my recently expanded empire. I was able to peace out with Brazil's last city Belem for all their gold and 20 diplomatic favor 1 turn before it became a Free City, and as Brazil disappeared so did all the Grievances from my blitzkrieg of their civilization. If Rio doesn't flip to me, the blitzkrieg might head to England in 10 turns.

I met everyone and circumnavigated the globe. The other continent is a bloodbath, and Maori lost their capital before I even met them or The Netherlands. Eras are flying by at Deity speed (Turn 88 Medieval!) and Sweden gobbled up the first Great Writer, possibly the only 60 GPP one. Strongly thinking about Moai-ing my way to victory.

Exactly 100 turns into the game ...

    - How long did you search for a site for your first city? What criteria did you use?
I immediately settled in place, after sending my Warrior North

    - Where did you settle your capital city? Your second city?
2nd city Byblos was settled on T30, southwest of the Oasis, near Wheat & Wine

    - Did you make a plan for achieving a Culture VC, what are the major steps you planned to take?
Well, I have not won a game on Immortal so far, so I have some doubts about a Victory :crazyeye:
Anyways, the plan is to use Dido's advantages for Settlers, and settle many small cities, with Theater Squares and lots of Museums.

    - What did you research and which policies did you choose and why?
To get my Cothons going, Celestial Navigation was my Priority. Only delayed it for Mining, Pottery and Irrigation, to keep my Builders busy.
Science Path was: Sailing, Mining, Pottery, Irrigation, Astrology, Celestial Navigation, AH, Archery, Masonry ...

    - What was your build order?
Builder, Slinger, Warrior, Settler, Builder, Warrior, Settler or Slinger
    - Did you try for a Pantheon? Which one did you select and why?
No. But I got 20 Faith from a Goody Hut, and was able to select Religious Settlements

    - How long did it take to find your neighbors? Were they hostile or friendly?
Harald immediately, Pedro II soon after, and Eleanor quite late (T80-90). Both Harald and Pedro II didn't like me much, and they still don't do.
Harald beat me to the Dead Sea spot by a few turns, and didn't like me settling my city on the lake, some 5 tiles away from his new city.
Broke my promise not to settle too close a bit later, by settling Aynook on the western side of that lake, again 5 tiles from his city. He denounced me, but no military activity so far.

    - How soon did you build a District? Which ones did you prioritize?
First Cothon in the Capital as soon as available (T55), followed by a Government Plaza with Ancestral Hall, to get my Settlers going.
I just completed my 1st Theater Square some turns ago, and I'm building my 1st Campus right now.

    - Did you try to build any Wonders?
Yes, with the desert so close, and my plan to settle many cities, I tried for the Pyramids, and I completed them on T79! :)

    - Did you emphasize expansion? How many cities have you built/captured in the first 100 turns?
So far 6 cities, and 2 Settlers close to their destinations.
I never manage to achieve that rule of thumb of 10 cities by T100 :undecide:
In the meantime, I have have 2 Biremes in the eastern seas, trying to find the remaining 2 Civs and to circumnavigate the globe. They have met Wilhelmina and Kupe so far, and 4 more City-States.

    - How quickly did you get Trade Routes working, who did you trade with?
Again, not as quickly as I would like, the Trading Post in Norway's city by the Dead Sea was completed on T85.
Plan is to have a Trade Route with each Civ ...

    - How did you play your governance cards, priorities?
As usual, fitting my Expansion with Bonus to Settlers and Builders, replaced by the Bonus to Wonders while I built the Pyramids. Fighting Bonus against the Barbarians until I adopted Classical Republic.

    - Which Governors did you choose and why did you choose them?
Magnus first, and promoted to Provision, for my few chops and to save my Population with the Settlers.
Pingala next, promoted first for Science and finally for Culture.

    - What City-States did you meet and which ones did you cultivate to your side?
Fez on T1, obviously, but it has been captured by Brasil so far.
I am the Suzerain of Mohenjo-Daro, but Harald has DOWed them; I'm ignoring Vilnius.
My Biremes have met Nan Madol, Rapa Nui, Nazca and Akkad. I'm the only one who has met Nan Madol, but 3 other Civs have already sent Envoys to Rapa Nui ...
    - How were the Barbarians?
No problem at all. There was 1 Camp to the West, which allowed me to get the different Eurekas, but there was never any danger.

    - Any surprises?
    No, not so far
