Hi guys
This is my first post in the forums: I just wanted to drop by to say a big "Thank You" to Gazebo and all the guys that contributed to VP. This mod is simply amazing and it single-handedly turned a flawed game into one of my favorite games of all time, the amount I'm spending on it is ridiculous. Thank you guys

While I'm here, I just want to ask: what is the correct mindset to play Progress ? In all my matches, I have good results with Tradition or Authority, but I simply cannot be able to win a Progress opening. Is it a situational tree ? I usually expand into 5-6 cities and I go tall, usually going for a science victory. Problem is I always seam to hit a wall when I enter Medieval Era, with both infrastructure and army lacking.

On a second note: which are the rules that determine when I can trade a "make peace with" offer ? Despire warscore being higher than 0, the option is not selectable

Thank you again for your awesome work and dedication

Cheers

You have to be above 75 war score or so to be allowed to make those kind of third party deals.

Progress for me is expanding very quickly to as much available turf as I dare to take, spending a lot of my early production on military so I don't get tackled on by my neighbours. Then stopping each non-capital's growth to 3 or 4 until I finish progress - enough workers to get some production out of the city to build infrastructure, but not killing my happiness before it is in place. Usually also nabbing trade rather quickly if I'm not rushing an ancient era wonder to keep my gold in check(ish, it usually still dips to negative). Progress is, in a way, playing for the longer game, and the time between your 5th and 6th policy will feel like forever and a day.

Progress really gets going once you have your silly bunch of cities all connected, some basic building power in each and start building up, up, up. It just might be inordinately tricky actually getting there depending on map and neighbours.

I think you need a lot of early culture to make progress works.
And the most optimal path is worker,+2production gold,10food culture upon building,20%building production, and save the city connection policy for the last.

My last game playing ethiopia, i am leading in science and culture in deity because i unlocked the left side policy fast with stele extra culture.

I cant seems to make progress work with any civ without early culture source.

With progress you are playing more map tiles than specialist slots, don't forget to produce enough worker units. You get massive production, so you can spam diplomats and befriend/ally any city state, and massive gold income, so you either raise a huge army or develop your cities faster. You need to secure a source of culture (be it from a luxury, an unique improvement, or a religious belief), and look for sources of happiness (piety temples, explore map, trade luxuries), or just bear the unhappiness with an anti-rebels squad. Warfare is expected, but you must avoid fights in Ancient. You focus on reseach rather than growth (learning techs is one way to get culture).

Founding a religion is tougher, you'll do better usurping it from another civ (this is risky, you may end up isolated). Producing wonders is easier past Classical, since you'll have many productive cities (additional wonders are more expensive in the same city)

Hi guys, thank you very much for your help. I will definetly try your tips in my next Progress game.

One thing that I forgot to ask (last one, I swear), is there a way to start the VP dll with the game and avoid the mod list load ?

Cheers

Yep. Modpacks. Some player may release a modpack in a few days after the official release. Some modpacks come with other QoL mods, like FlagPromotions, very recommended. Or you could make one yourself, there's a guide on how to do that, with your must have mods.
