A Brave New World Part 2

In the small town of Wheaton, Deseret, citizens can see the skies over Deseret to their north, it was always a hazy sight, smoke from thousands of fires filled the air and choking the life of local birds and wildlife, even their crops were suffering due to lack of sun and rain. The constant arrivals of more brigades and troops through this small town further damaged the infrastructure and crops as they settled down and set up camps. While the citizens were true Mormons, even they were feeling the pressures of a government in exile and a looming war. As more and more brigades arrive, the citizens continue to feel the burden of feeding and taking care of the some 50,000 strong army. But the high point of their week was the arrival of President and Prophet Joseph Salt and his family who were followed by the 2nd and 6th armies that fought so valiantly to rescue them at Bringhamton.

But all that is now in the past, it has been a whole year, and the south's food supply is running low as low rainfalls and an economic depression grips Deseret farmers and ranchers, Joseph knows if he needs to save his country and his army, he has to move north now. Reports from the scouts bring the news that the rebels have taken over many of the towns and cities, many of Deserets once prime wheat fields are now burnt or burning, the capital Bringhamton is under the control of the largest rebel force known as the Savior of the Catholic peoples and is also the strongest, fortunately they have left the Bringhamton Temple alone, perhaps due to the fact that one Brigade is holed up there ready to fight to the last man. Many of the brigades that formed the Mormon army, have deserted from the army and either went home or joined the rebels, but fortunately for Joseph and his government, the majority moved south and accepted the purges with ease and possibly open arms.

Again, even Mormon troops did not particularly enjoy the stance their Prophet was taking and clashed with their commanders over ignoring the orders to march south and instead march to their homelands so they can protect their families. Only 3 Brigades did that out of 12, an impressive amount compared to the fact that 87 brigades now reside with Joseph and his government. While a full fledged war may hang in the balance, Joseph is taking no risks and prepared this action so he can find the rebel strongholds and take them down quickly, rather than wait for them to attack him when he is weak. Many in his cabinet openly supported the plan, the troops remained unsure over whether it would actually work. So far the idea held true, the rebel strongholds are exposed and the armies are ready to strike, but what was the costs of this action? Many have asked this question.

The cost remained to be seen, but so far Deseret has lost almost all agriculture capabilities, and as a result took a big hit to their economy, the depression only made a small hit compared to the loss of Deseret's biggest market, fortunately, what market they managed to retain, was enough to trade with Texas for the cash they have now. Joseph Salt's tireless efforts for his country and his citizens continued to pay off, the Church pulled through by opening the grain storehouses that were reserved for such a calamity, without those storehouses, millions of citizens would have died of starvation, and they gave food to everyone, not just Mormons, but Catholics, Jews, Blacks, everyone. In exchange, all weapons found must be given to the church which in turn will be sent south for the army. It is a small price to pay for food when the rebels burn all the lands.

Information was also accepted, and it was through this that Deseret leaders were able to determine where the leading rebel leaders are residing and where their Lts. are, with this information in hand, the Deseret military begins the biggest offensive in Deseret's history.

We recognize you as the one true government of France

To Germany

We thank you for your support in this crisis.

To SUSA

In regards to Colombia the plans to invite this nation into the SADL was already intended but this crisis has caused it to be an inconvienent coincidence. But now they are in the SADL and being threatened we cannot speak for the other members of SADL but Chilean honor will not allow them to be simply cast into the wind and absorbed into another part of your Socilaist Bloc.

To the Republic of Italy

We will be there in Milan for the conference

To Georgia

We would be willing to trade but there is little either side can offer one another except for your textiles and industrial goods for my limited copper, coal, and fruit surplus

RE: ACC

Virginia will send a representative to this meeting, but the Emperor will reserve the final right to sign any kind of treaty regarding socialism or communism. While we do not particularly prescribe to the socialist movement, we do not see socialism as merely a step towards communism. In fact, a good socialist country could stand to undermine communist efforts within that state.

The Socialist Union re-iterates that there is no goal to absorb Columbia or Chile or any other nation into the "Socialist Block." The only goal of the Socialist Union is to defend Ecuador and we seek neither to change the government of any other nation nor to gain any land in the process. We ask again that Germany and New England use their influence in the region to end hostilities and to begin negotiations. We are sure that a peaceful resolution is attainable.

We do not recognize the existing Ecuador government. We are moving in to stabilize a nation which has clearly fallen to anarchy. Once more we are acting as a matter of approved intervention into a New England Protectorate. Neither you nor Germany has any say in this matter.

From SUSA

The government of Ecuador has been stable and has ruled the country for over five years now. It has a military alliance with the Socialist Union and any further military actions against Ecuador will necessitate a military response from the Union. We again express our hope that New England will decide to agree to a cease fire and to begin negotiations with Ecuador regarding any grievances they may have.

We have negotiated with the true Ecuadorian government, which was found in New England. They have given us the go-ahead to restore order in their country.

And Ecuador has been our protectorate for over 50 years. We do not recognize the illegal government that has seized control there nor have we ever done so. Until this time, we had been unable to deal with the rebels that have seized control there, and we feared that any actions on our part would be viewed by expansionist or imperialist by nations in the area. When Peru and Columbia offered to help us in subduing Ecuador, we gave them permission to do so. We have no problem with Socialists in Ecuador or anywhere else, we have issue with rebels attempting to usurp the freely elected government of a country. We will consider any foreign troops entering Ecuador without our express permission to be invaders of a New England Protectorate and we will respond accordingly. We urge both SUSA and Mexico consider the ramifications of declaring war on New England and all that such an action will entail for your countries.

To New England

The Socialist Union completely understands the concerns of New England and we simply hope that a resolution can be reached without further hostilities. We suggest an immediate cease fire, elections in Ecuador to be monitored by New England and the Socialist Union. We believe that it would even be appropriate for Ecuador to return to New England's protectorate since there is nothing to prevent such a cooperation between New England and a member of the Cooperative Group such as Ecuador.

We hope that New England will see reason and will agree to such negotiations. We do not seek a war and we believe that a war between New England and her allies and the Socialist Group would be detrimental to both sides. So we urge New England to consider our offer carefully.

From: The Union of Mexico

That your government did not act in Ecuador shows either a lack of will or ability to ensure control over the region in question. The government and people of Ecuador have peacefully existed in South America and have prospered during this time. The only Imperialist and Expansionist nation in the region is New England. We believe that it was New England that organized this attack. As New England had no control over Ecuador we fail to see New English permission as an acceptible excuse for war.

Niether SUSA or the Union of Mexico have declared war against New England. Currently Mexico is at war with Columbia not a member of a protectorate nor an ally of New England. The Union of Mexico has had troops deployed in Ecuador for several years and New England has not acted on this. Our troops will continue to remain in Ecuador until the Ecuadorian government demands their removal.

We instead advise New England not to declare war against the good Socialist countries of the world and look to solve some of its own internal problems. The people of New England are suffering economic hardships. Many fear for their jobs and to the Union of Mexico it seems that New England is more interested in further colonial expansion than the plight of its people.
