1) I have leaders. I am told that you "load" units into a leader to create an Army. Maybe I'm an idiot, but I can't figure out how this is done....

2) allocating funds to research

The guide says you can increase the funds for research. All I see is a slider bar to move a percentage between luxuries and research. Does this allocate funds? If so, why does my science advisor consistenetly say we need more funds for research when the slider is set to 100% ?

Does anyone else find the documentation lacking? I noticed the patch added instructions on adding items to a produciton que..doog, since I gave up on trying to use it pre-patch..

I noticed your question:

it reminded me that I wanted to start a thread on this annoying habit.

Firstly, I think it is a (sick) joke for all the tech/science types out there. What scientist is ever going to say -"No, no, we have more than enough money for what we are doing! Please defend the empire." Of course the military guy says much the same thing but he has real information about the others that you can really use.

My concern with this is that it doesn't do you any good as far as information is concerned. it would be more helpful if he could tell you if your spending is superior/adequate/inadequate. Once you hit the 4 turn tech it starts to get downright annoying.

I wondered about how you created armies and then I found out that you can only create them in cities.

okay, but how? Do you right-click on the leader in the garrison window? Do you do something with the units? I can't figure it out and I'm sure it's something stupid I'm missing. Also, was I right about the research funds? Is there anywhre else you alocate actual FUNDS?

You have to get your leader safely back to one of your cities (leaders can be capturd so you'll want to escort them with some combat units), then an option will appear on the screen to have the leader build an army.

Once the leader is transformed into an army, you can load units into it - much like a galleon or other ships. However, the unload option is not available for armies.

yes, you were correct about the funding. The slider bar in the Domestic advisors window is where you set your spending.

It is worth playing with this thing- Sometimes you can get the same benefits from 50% spending (turns to finish) as you can at 80% or even at 10% instead of 50%. Gold is too scarce in some games to be throwing it away.

So I should be seeing a pop up window when the leader rides in to town?

If that 's the case, it's not working.

Do you the units need to exist in the town already? Could moving the leader out/ion to town AFTER units are presetn make the difference?

No popup should appear. Just move your leader to one of your cities. Then, move the unit you want to put into the army to the same city. On the action buttons in the bottom of the screen a load button should appear (the unit must be selected). Press it and choose the army where to load the unit (if you only have one available, then choose that one).

Correct. And make sure you at least four cities; you must have four cities per army.
