I hate spammers and the like, but honestly, I find it disturbing and worrying that spamming can bring bigger penalties than running over someone with a car...

    But spammers does it intentionaly.

Now, if someone runs over someone else with a car on purpose and kills, we could argue that the fines should be increased there.

I still think a better sentence would be to terminate the companies and forbid the people behind them to touch a computer in 10 years or so. Like Mitnicks sentence.

Here's an interesting take I just heard: A spammer over the course of a year may take one minute of time from 31.5 million people, so cumulatively 60 years of people's time. Is that any less significant or ethically unjust than premeditatively killing a 20-year-old that would reasonably be expected to live to 80 to steal the 20yr old's money?

they will just declare bankrupcy and the plaintif is unlikely to ever see a dime. I like the ruling, but there is no sense in believing they will actually receive the money.

$10 per spam message! Can I trade my spam for payments, or does this ruling not apply to future cases?

What good is it to award so much money when you know that money is never going to be given. Indeed they'll file for bankruptcy and start a new spam-company. Big deal...

Pssh, Spam. It's called getting a free Yahoo or Hotmail account for signing up for stuff, and all Spam goes there, then having another Spam-free account. Haven't had Spam in years . . .

A fine is too good for these people. I don't need natur4l mal3 enhancem3nt or b0t0x or whatever crap they're trying to sell.

The most absurd one I got was "Jesus Saves! Refinance Now!" (actual topic title.)

    Idiocy.
