A few suggestions and a question

Hi,

I've been playing VEM for few months, and I gotta say, it's great, fun mod. But I've always found it's lacking some things. As I'm not a modder, I will post them here. Tell me what do you think about them?

1. World Wonder called World Wide Web - with it you would get 1 happines and 1 social policy + maybe 1 free tech? It would require Globalization.

2. There was a mod that added a marine unit from Civ4, would it be possible to ask for a permission and add that unit as a light infantry?

3. A new building called refinery - it would work like a factory, only it would require oil instead of coal and it would be a bit better.

I have more of those ideas in my head, but let me know what do you think about it guys. And now it's time for question!

I'm using a mod User Events (I belive it's the name) that adds new, user created events. But when I'm using it with VEM, VEM's decisions has weird TXT_UNKNOWN_PLAYER and etc. instead of, for example cost in gold. Is it possible to make it work again without disabling that mod?

1. - I think adding techs for no particular reason is a bit odd, but, the idea of the WWW wonder - doing what it did in Civ IV (Free access to any tech that 2 other Civs have) would be great. You should suggest it in the More Wonders thread.

2. - Marines are being added in G&K, supposedly, available at pennicilin (Who knows why).
 
1. I was aiming at more realistic approach to the Internet - a connection between Globalization and Computers.

2. I mean to make light infantry look like marines, you know, a graphic mod.
 
I disabled it and everything is ok. BTW. I edited my first post, I forgot that Globalization require Computers, so WWW goes under it.
 
The user events mod was added to vem and improved, so running both at once would be redundant. :)

Changing the light infantry graphics is on the todo list for anyone with a talent for creating unit skins.
 
I will see what can I do. I had some experience with other games (GTA IV, Men Of War, Empire Earth II), maybe it won't be so hard to swap a model :)

And also, the tech tree makes no sense - why doesn't advenced balistic require rocketry? Or why you can build mechanized infantry without combustion, but with electronic? Enginnering doesn't require construction. The list goes on...
 
I haven't tought about it! Well, thanks for pointing this out.

BTW (again?) Is it possible to make Balanced Sniper Mod compatible with VEM? When I use it, VEM units dissapear...
