i know, i know , civ is a strategy game, but has any of you encountered anything incredibly lucky

eg. i popped a hut containing metal casting!

eg. barbarian stopped to pillage so that i could rush my archer in to defend an undefended city

Popped BW and IW in two huts as roman with iron in BFC in multi.

Thats pretty darn lucky.

Imagine that happening in a Multiplayered Game, where they forgot to take the Huts off. :goodjob:

It was.

Three civs went down before Russia's longbows and maces stopped me, then Byzans' Cataphracts wiped me off the map.

But I got Celtia, Egypt and Zulu down, atleast!

Ouch. Cataphracts...

Too bad you didn't start near Justinian. You could've stopped his gambit cold in the early game.

Yeah, but I was severely halting my economy in my Egypt war. Should have stopped after Celtia and had a break, but I just couldn't force my self to do it... I had to follow history and crush Egypt. Then I wanted to stop there, but Shaka was a so bad player that I could easily kill him off - as soon as I DoWed, he left and got taken over by an AI - shwing! Nearly endless war coming up!

Got this start on a game:

Complete with 6(!) resources within the fat cross, Iron/Bronze right outside, horses within the 15000 area, 2 wine total, like 3 or 4 bananas, a coastal city with only one square which will never be worked(the regular ocean), and a river. All that if I move up(which I most certainly did). Unfortionately, the whole continent is one religion, which makes infighting very difficult...

Aside from that lucky break, barbs wiped out two of my rivals in that game(All the sudden, I see Egypt has been destroyed...wth?! Send a warrior to investigate, and I see the magical black borders:lol: )

I have had some even better luck.

In four games (two of them PBEM and one multiplayer) I sent a scout/warrior exploring and they found a hut five spaces away and they popped a second city. BOOYAA!! I won each of those games easily.

In one game single player I sent my scout exploring and he found a hut to the west five spaces away and popped a second city, then he went north and found anouther hut five spaces away and popped a third city. OMG!! I went for conquest in that game and won, easily.

Techs are nice but give me another city any day, it is such a huge boost it almost feels like cheating. lol

I didn't think you could pop a city anymore. And settlers don't come after noble.

i was playing a game where all of the AIs (i think 7 of them) were a team against me, and their attitude was set at -100 beforehand. so they despised me and always would, and any wonders one built they all shared the benefits of, and any techs one learned the others got right away, and any time one declared war on me i'd be fighting them all simultaneously. oooooh boy.

then i see this message about lucky pop huts, for all 7 of them:

Best ever BFC I ever got (didn't think of taking a screenshot at the time) was on an islands map with Hannibal. 12 sea tiles (1 or 2 may have been ocean), with 1 fish and 3 clams, 7 plains tiles, 1 with bronze, 1 with iron, 1 with elephants, 1 with pigs, and 3 with forests, and 1 grassland forest. Longterm may be not the best city ever but a good starting position. Pity the rest of the island was desert in the north, tundra in the south with a mountain range down the middle.
