No, seriously: if it was easily accomplished, would you like to have a "Palm Slap" smiley?

I am pretty sure the use of that emote would fall under CFC's broad definition of trolling and not really improve discussion anyway.

Some of the emoticons already fall under CFC's broad definition of trolling. Insofar as those we have can be and are used for shorthand ( :D ) I've found myself searching for an equivalent more than once ( [pissed] :wallbash: :hammer2: )

    Best Regards,

    ;)z

True, but I don't even remember the last time I saw anyone use the headbutting one.

Actually these smileys are really quite useful for communicating frustration. Doesn't have to be with the poster you're replying to (nor would that, strictly speaking, be trolling).

Usually when facepalm images are posted, it's directed at a poster, and it's trolling.

We have suggested it in the smilie thread where new smilies get posted and if the admins like them, they get added to the roster. I know that i have suggested a few in my time and only two have been accepted.

I would humbly suggest that "usually" would also include:

    , :dubious: , :spank: , , :shake: , :ar15: , and, :sniper:

    Best Regards,

    Oz

Great Ozy, now I am sure the use of those smilies will now automatically result in trolling infractions :spank: :p

The Elimination games: everyone starts with 20 points and users downvote each other until there's only one left.

The definition of trolling seems to be expanding as I get older. As far as I'm aware, it means being intentionally obnoxious, rude, stupid, or offensive to get a rise out of people. Being frustrated with a person doesn't mean you're trolling them, and while ideally a civil conversation would never give one cause to be frustrated with a person, we all know that's not true. Say you've refuted an argument in thread four times and I bring up that argument again. A facepalm might seem unhelpful, but in truth, it should tell me that I'm missing something, and that perhaps I should review your posts more carefully.

Or, heck, what if you post an article about idiotic people somewhere: "Man Accidentally Presses Button; Sulawesi Falls into the Sea" -- that sure as heck merits a facepalm, and it's not directed at a poster.

Arguing that this would somehow facilitate trolling... Why not just infract actual instances of trolling?

That's your reason for needing a facepalm smiley? Really?
