After Getting Civ Iv Bts. i was teased.... giving abilities like corporation and inproved ineterface just got my glued to the game!

Then One Day the game stopped working, i was like an alcoholic at a bar with no money, just fiending away!

i realized civ III is better, more Challenging, More Micro-management.

Hey, i like civ IV too, it is just too much effort setting it up when it breaks.

And breakages happens too often.

As a result of this experience, im demoting my game to civ III :king:

Did you attempt to find out why the game stopped working?

IMO it's worth the effort fixing it, but hey I can't stop you from playing another great game like civ 3! :D

ahh, Civ III was always better, i did Adapt to civ Iv and avoided being the 'old timer'. Civ IV was great, but seems too different, like they lowered their target audience age by using bright and rich colours and etc.

I tried fixing it, i found out the problem when it was too late, turns out my XML files were corrupted. i installed rise of mankind mod and put it in my core by mistake.

I agree the cartoonish graphics weren't the best direction to take, but hey at least it's not civ rev eh?

Really though, I don't think Civ 4 (particularly BtS) suffers a lack of strategic depth compared with previous versions of Civ. The strategies are probably more different than in any previous game. In comparison, moving from civ2 to civ3 was not much of a change if I recall correctly (it was a long time ago now :)).

And you might offend a few people (maybe unintentionally) if you say they deliberately lowered the target audience. I'm not offended but I think you're mistaken if you think Civ4 BtS is a simpler game than civ3.

Geez. After your first post I thought you were saying there is something wrong with the game. Your second post tells me you just don't feel like repairing it after you screw it up. So now your going back to CIV III. Fine.
I still play it on my laptop. Still enjoy it very much :).
Don't give up on CIV IV, though. Fix your software environment and reload the game. Just the game. If the graphics bother you ignore them. I think you'll find IV to be a more in-depth and enjoyable game.
Just remember, if you install modpaks, modify the XML files, or make other changes you run the risk of having to reinstall the game. Don't blame the game. Have your fun then reinstall. I modify some XML values to change some game features I don't like. Everytime there is a patch I have to reinstall. I know this.

Or even better, if you want to fiddle with XML then you should copy the XML files you wish to change, put them in CustomAssetts and then modify them to your heart's delight! If you break anything, all it takes is deleting the modified XML file and your original files are still there. Heck you didn't even need to back them up, it's that simple. In this sense, basic modding should be a risk free endeavour!

If you make changes to the compiled features of the game it's a bit more complicated, but not many people do this.

I might be soon. I'm taking C++ . Ultimately changing the source code may be the best wat to modify the game to my liking.

Not if you do it right. As Piece mentions, you copy the files you want to change to your Custom Assets and do your work on those. That's what that folder is there for. I find it rather silly that you'd come here and complain about something that's actually your fault. That's like blaming the sofa when you stub your toe, not exactly a mature response IMO.

and civ REV is the worst for childish graphics!i hear you on that.

and the aweful aweful gibberish language they all speak! that would drive me nuts. Ok enough rev bashing now. :) I don't even own that game, nor have I played it.

Gameplay is better in Civ IV IMO. However, I could have done without whatever graphical adjustments eat through such ridiculous amounts of memory and lag the game so badly. This is a turn based strategy game, not an art gallery :/. Even so, IV > III for gameplay.

2D graphics are a no-no for marketing people though.

The real axis of evil is the Z-axis ;)

all true. but civ III tries to be real, for more mature people.
Quoting Pauline Hanson...
"Please explain."

Sometimes games target a broader audience and in doing so do not completely ignore the more mature audience. If you assume Civ4 targets only minors because of the graphics you'll be missing out. It does sound like you haven't played the game for long too.

Look at the Shrek movies... When I saw the first one I couldn't believe I was watching a "kid" movie. But after watcthing it, I appreciated the way they had put a lot of adult humour in there too. So it appealed to a wide audience - a very very good way to make a movie IMO.

it doesn't kill the pc resources and every game is just as fun as the last one

I find every BtS game just as fun as the last one, if not more fun, and my computer runs this game perfectly fine. My computer is not that expensive either. It can't run Crysis that's for sure, but running FarCry is a good benchmark of what it can do well.

Lol, I don't know anybody who has a computer that can run Crysis . My computer is an expensive (but crappy) Dell and the game runs fine (with the exception of 34 civs in the modern era, or GEM).

it doesn't kill the pc resources ...

Probably because it was designed with older computers in mind that aren't nearly as powerful as the ones today. Play Civ 4 on a half-decent computer and it won't even come close to killing any resources. Just because your computer sucks doesn't make it the game's fault.

So if you think Civ 3 is so great, why are you wasting your time and everyone's else by posting in the Civ 4 forums? Go hang out with the rest of the dinosaurs in the Civ3 forums.

Willem, you just insulted around 70% of the community here. We're not here to insult, we're here to convince warhead that CIV is as good as CIII.
