Well, that is certainly my worst defeat ever. And it will likely be permanently enshrined on my hall of fame (shame?) In the year 3070 BC, a "massive barbarian uprising" began one square outside of my borders. The five archers took my single worker, and then raided my undefended capital on the next turn. I end up with a score of exactly zero. At the table of great leaders, I am sitting next to Dan Quayle. At least I didn't score negative; I'd have to sit next to Dubya. *shutters*

I think this is the first time I was actually defeated.

I was going to make up a big phony public-game thread and then show myself getting defeated that early. But when I checked the autosave folder, there was nothing in there. Apparently I got beaten too quickly?

That's strange, barbarian archers shouldn't enter your territory that early. They should turn back from it until a far later date.

I assume Cornhog hit a 'Beyond the Sword' random event rather than good ol' generic Barbarians.

And these should also turn away from your borders, just like the normally generated barbarians.

The random event generated barbarians ignore all the rules normal barbarians play by. They can spawn outside the fog of war and attack whenever they like.

Are you sure about that? I've heard entirely different reports from several posters that if this event occurs early enough in the game, then the barbarians will move away. That can't all be just blind luck.

At least when they have a target close (such as a worker), they enter your territory, and then they don't stop ^^

read about the current gotm :)

The same thing happened to me. Barb uprising and took my capital. Mine was defended with 2 warriors against 5 barb archers. Close to around 3100 BC. This was on Noble.

I'm sorry but

That's good humor :goodjob:

I have twice had Barbarian uprisings near my capital.

Once was with Archers blocked off in a small area of the map, none of them entered my territory; I didn't know what to expect though so I built Warriors & Archers and took them out with them; which just meant I had garrison troops for my future cities & fog-busters to keep me safe.

The other one was with Spearman, and they also didn't enter my territory; the only problem was that they cut me off from any resource and by the time I cleared them off with Archers I was in a much worse state than in the first game.

I'm really not sure why they'd go for the capital; it's either because it's undefended (it was defended in both of my games) or because of the worker, or both. I'm really not sure how this thing works.

By the way, you can go to :System Folder:\Documents and Settings\:user name:\My Games\Beyond the Sword\Replays and erase the replay for that game. This will also erase the entry from your 'hall of fame'.

Maybe you would have preferred sitting next to John Kerry?

That's one of the very few things I don't like about this game, i.e. the shot that Sid takes at Dan Quayle. It's like playing on warlords level - it's too easy.

Have you noticed that Abraham Lincoln is pretty high up on the list of great leaders? Well if you know your history, you'll know that people made fun of him (during his presidency) just like you're making fun of Bush. You might even say that some of those people who made fun of Lincoln look pretty foolish now.

that is absolutely fantastic; thanks

lol, politix

I like how the OP makes a cliché lefty jab at the President and no one says anything.

Someone implies that John Kerry is worse and gets chastised. "lol politix"

I don't have a problem with all these ridiculous cuts at President Bush. People have a right to say whatever stupid thing comes to their little pile of grey matter. What really irks me is that they're so happy being little sheep. It's the rampant stupidity and ignorance that I cannot stand.

Sadly, most conservatives are doing arguably more productive things with their lives so I'm left to deal with nothing but lefties on the internet.

I just cannot wrap my head around why people hate George W. Bush so much. Not a single liberal has been able to answer this for me in anything more than platitudes.

Though, shame on me I suppose. Because I've now pointed out the liberal hipocrisy and now a mod will come in and delete our posts. Speech is free until you point out how hipocritical a liberal is, then you're just hating.

Society today makes me :(

lol, politix x2

Everyone else was ignoring the jab at Bush and focusing on the game.

PS - I can happily outline reasons people dislike Bush in PMs, if you so desire.
