A simple question,help!how to find iron?

On a related note, i hate how you discover something new and then you discover the resources lie in enemy territory eg - Gunpowder with Saltpeter being everywhere except within your borders - war ensues. In fact i spent 350 years of the game at war with 4 other nations to control salt-peter, huge armies clashing on the battlefield, all for one grid square LOL!

I had a similar 'saltpeter shortage' happen in one of my games, except that I avoided war until I could build tanks. Then I flattened them and took their saltpeter (not that it was any use by then ).
How to Find Iron
Get the tech. Then go to your F2 and see if you already have it, just in case you have a city sitting on top of it or something. If you cannot see it anywhere on the map, toggle "hide civilization improvements" by pressing Ctrl-Shift-'M' (Cmd-Shift-'M' on Macintosh) and look for it.
If still not discovered, then get those roads built to other civs and TRADE for it. Iron is expensive because everyone knows how valuable it is, but maybe you have some valuable luxuries?

Also, you should download the graphics mod that makes it easier to see resources. It puts a big happy face by all the luxuries, and a big letter by the strategic ones. (C for coal, U for Uranium, etc.) I cant imagine playing without this mod now. I got soooo frustrated when I first started playing scrolling all around the map and squinting at the screen trying to see where all the uranium was!
