A story about "The British Empire"...

reads it like this.......

Ok, not meaning to hop into this conversation, and I'm not going to discuss the debate (I am a Taoist however, more of a philosiphy, not a religion). But on to the point.
Theory does NOT mean it has not been proven, theory explains how something happens, Law explains why something happens. That is a common error people commit who seem to think you first make a Hypothesis, adopted into a Theory, which later becomes a law once proven true. That is completely and utterly false.

Thats all. :) OT: I have FFX, almost done with it too but my freaking friend came over and saved over my saved game. :(

What exactly are the chances of life existing on earth?

I've never heard anyone give the actual numbers ( and I certainly have never heard of anyone that would be so audacious as to assume he or she knew in the first place).

So imagine it like this. If the chances were one in a trillion (and that is a guess because no one knows) that life just happened to happen on earth, and that the earth just happened to be in the exact right spot for it to happen, than we just happened to win the universal lottery.

But, my point is, no one knows what the circumstances for life to exist would have to be and no one knows what the chances of those circumstances coming about are. Life on earth exists the way it does not because that is the only way but because it just so happens that that is the way this particular life system grew up. We are the product of our physical environment. If the circumstances had been different, so too would we be different. No prerequisites had to be fulfilled in my opinion I'm sure the same could happen on any planet and the end product would simply be different because of different circumstances.

Yikes...this is like my first post and it has absolutely nothing to do with civ 3

Look, if you wanna continue this go to the Off-Topic and start a thread. The incentive is that, the fanatical Atheists, and Fearless Leader 2, the fanatical Christian will show up and answer ALL your questions the way you want to hear them. There's and Evolution topic on the second or third page, look at that.

I'm not getting a PS2 until later, but I'm getting a gamecube in "spring". Square may move to nintendo soon, either that or the games will be multi-format. Also Capcom have gone exclusively to GC, so only we'll get Resident Evil. Plus, Miyamato has taken out the Cel-shading of Zelda! YES!

it's like... Damn

The only reason I bought a ps2 was for resident evil. The only reason I bought a Dc was for RE:CV. I really don't want to buy a GC but it looks like if I want to play RE than I have to.

After a trip to a pal's house, where he plays GameSharked RE3. I gotta play it on Hard again...Aghhh no bullets! Eat knife Chaser!!! (also known as Nemesis)

My point again (well not really MINE, just I am the one bringing it up). We didn't really win much of a lottery. If we didn't win in the first place we wouldn't be here to answer the question, so it would be a moot point.

Here's another one of these gems, from a genetics softcover this time: There are two lines of belief, one which says behaviour is shaped by upbringing and the other which says behaviour is shaped by our genetic makeup. Nature vs Nurture as it's widely known.

So here's the deal: I do sowmething wrong. One one hand, it was the way I was brought up and taught by society that made me the way I am. So it isn't my fault. One the other hand, my genes have predetermined that I would act in this way. So it's not my fault again. I forget the name to this Don'tBlameMe "philosophy".

Wow - this has been a great discussion, one of the best I've seen of religion on the internet. If I could just contribute one or two things:

:nuke: The 'Don't Blame Me' philosophy the last poster referred to is called determinism, and its a practically undisputable proof of the problem of evil against the various Free Will Defences (well, unless your name is Immanuel Kant :( )

:nuke: True, evolution is 'just' a theory, but it has a heck of a lot of factual basis to it: fossil records, etc. The big question is: why on earth would a God try and mislead us like that? It just makes him sound perverse, and look like a 6 year old child.

:nuke: If you're interested in this issue, take a look at some stuff I've written about it on my website (don't ask about the name):

:nuke: The case against the cosmological argument - http://thomasash.hypermart.net/ethicsphilosophyandreligion/ash-againstcosmological.html
:nuke: The case against the design argument - http://thomasash.hypermart.net/ethicsphilosophyandreligion/ash-againstdesign.html

:nuke: Some shocking Bible statements - http://thomasash.hypermart.net/ethicsphilosophyandreligion/ash-bibleshocking.html

:king: Enjoy! This is a contentious issue, and I'm impressed everyone has stayed so civil about it.

There is a place for everything and everything in it's place. Don't jump to conclusions, keep your faith in light of everthing; technology only proves what was meant to be found out about in the first place. I'm not a bible basher or a satanist but at some stage you must stop to think who created all these things man has spent so long trying to decipher whether it be the mating habbits of a humble insect or or the creation of the universe. Everything started from a single cell/atom even you and I, but find out who created them and you will be a better person than any scientst or evolutionist. If you have faith then you to will know the answers.

Now back to civ.

Amen Einstein. ;)

PLEASE! Stop posting on this thread!

This is the official END! of this discussion! (At least on this Thread)

And I don't want any more posts on this thread, not even a: "I agree" or something...

THE END (At last...)
