I've played Civ since Civ I - enjoyed Civ III the most - never really got into Civ IV - the first expansion, not the second. One of the reasons I didn't get into IV was that my PC could barely run it - lousy graphics card.

I knew that CiV was coming out and I reordered a week or so before release. I had the itch to play Civ again. The fun of killing things on a grand scale. So... Ordered a better graphics card - 8800 ultra and treated myself to a 24 inch screen

Started playing CiV - at first? Pleased because it had a lot of the things I liked. When playing ANY of the Civs I'd often play on tiny maps. Ones where every decision is immediately critical. Every strategic resource is worth fighting over. You have limited units on the map. They need to move perfectly to be in the exact right place at the right time. These games are very precise and feel like a board game. I like that style of play. I used to play Chess and the Japanese game of Go.

CiV has the potential for demanding a tiny map playing style over an entire world - but it's not even a good beta. That's been beaten to death on this, and other forums.

So? Now that I have better graphics and bigger screen? I'm playing Civ IV again... Even snagged a cheap copy of BtS - and I've downloading some of the mind blowing mods.

A strange path back to playing civ
