So if we follow history in Civ then at 4000 BC we should always start with (at least) Wheel - Hunting (spears) - Archery (bow) - Mining - Mathematics (tally sticks) - Pottery - Agriculture - Bronzeworking - Animal Husbandry and Medicine (surgery).

No wonder I do badly. With only two starting techs I am working under a handicap.
