A trial ballon named Condi

I think Condi Rice could be a difference maker here in North Carolina. It would give a lot of black and female voters cover to dump Obama. Well, I say a lot, no, it will be a small percentage but it could make all the difference here.

Whether she would help in Virginia I don't know. But I know the politics here, she would help a lot more than someone like Portman.

The only Portman North Carolinian voters know was the dude that tried to kill Whitney Houston.

Oh god you live in North Carolina?

This all makes sense now.

;)

Mittens just insulted an NAACP convention. I don't see him winning many blacks back to him after that. Might help some with unaffiliated women though.

Energy will pick up once its obvious to all the economy simply isnt coming back by election time. Romney doesnt need to get fancy, he just needs to ride the wave of national suckiness to victory.

Plus having massive corporation fund raising should do it.
On the other hand Republicans did elect Bush twice and they sure didnt regret that.

Now, imagine a debate between her and Biden. You'd have Rice with all her genius vs. a lunatic telling sex jokes.

It would be an interesting debate, because both are eloquent and passionate speakers.

I also don't see how anyone could call Joe Biden a lunatic. The hell he ever do to you?

I think she's an incredibly intelligent person and an asset to our nation.

Romney will never pick her as a running mate though. For one, both have a history of more liberal politics. Romney will likely feel that he needs someone more to the right of himself in order to appeal to his base.

Good luck running on cutting the deficit and against Obama's foreign policy when your VP is GWB's Secretary of State and NSA adviser. Picking her muddles the message and looks more like an obvious political ploy that I don't think woman will appreciate.

Didn't Palin turn off as many women as she pulled in?

Also, if Romney's banking on the economy, it doesn't make much sense to have a foreign affairs specialist on the team.
Would be a great pick in 08, might be good in 16, not in 2012.

I understand what you are saying but I don't think Romney thinks that way. He is pretty arogant. And pretty contemptous of the conservative base.

He views the conservative base the way the liberals here view me, as mentally challenged. Because he is liberal himself, and he thinks he can ignore the base now, and he is probably right because the base is never going to vote for him, they are going to vote against Obama. Thats what he thinks, and he is right on that point.

So he really is free to go with someone that can help him where he is weak, which is with women, blacks, hispanics, the highly educated. Rice ticks a lot of boxes, will be strong with independents and has the foreign policy and Washington experience that he lacks.

Rice has been thoroughly vetted, shouldn't be gaffe prone, and has proven able to be a team player. No evidence of a runnaway ego, no hint of scandal. She was also loyal to Bush and that I think will be a big factor in her favor, in Romney's eyes.

And I think a lot of party insiders would like this pick because if someone like Christie or Rubio gets the slot and Romney loses, then they would be next in line. Rice has never been elected, probably would not run in 2016 if that happened so the door would be open for a wide range of contenders. So there is a lot of vested interest in putting Rice in this slot. This is a wet dream for Jeb Bush.

Keep in mind that there were probably 4 or 5 potential candidates out there that could have beaten Romney but stayed out because it was assumed the economy would come round and Obama would be a lot harder to beat than it looks now.

One more factor, since Rice is liberal she is going to get a lot better press than most of the others. CNN needs ratings and will tread carefully for fear of offending women and blacks. Fox will love her.

Rice seems to have a lot more pros than cons.

It's a perfect match: Plastic Man Mitt and his token veep pick.

There's Condi Rice praising the Chinese government for making China what it is today, demonstrating her remarkable ignorance of what makes an economy grow. A perfect pick to go along with the other nuts running for office.
Indeed. I don't understand how Rice is perceived as being so intelligent by so many. Even Rumsfeld and Cheney thought she was completely incompetent, and she had direct involvement in the Iraq War / torture debacles. She has been a lackey at the Hoover Institution since leaving public life which has always been a dubious neocon think tank even before it fell out of favor with the Republicans.

Might hear this on the campaign trail (from Wiki)

As Stanford's Provost, Rice was responsible for managing the university's multi-billion dollar budget. The school at that time was running a deficit of $20 million. When Rice took office, she promised that the budget deficit would be balanced within "two years." Coit Blacker, Stanford's deputy director of the Institute for International Studies, said there "was a sort of conventional wisdom that said it couldn't be done... that [the deficit] was structural, that we just had to live with it." Two years later, Rice announced that the deficit had been eliminated and the university was holding a record surplus of over $14.5 million

This was back when nobody was worried about deficits.

A University Provost is hardly any degree of experience in managing the world's largest economy.

So Mobby, you think something similar to the Kerry-Edwards ticket is the key to victory?

Victory? Yes. Sustainability? Hell no.

Case in point, we didnt know how big a sleaze Edwards was in the Kerry era. But the Enquirer would have found it out eventually (as they did).

On the other hand Independents did elect Bush twice and they sure didnt regret that.

Fixed that for you.

lol ok. so what, are you on the portman bandwagon then?

I dunno who that even is. Shows you how up to date I am on all this.

now ı may exactly have nothing in this discussion but she had more heart compared to average neo-con . Does that constitute something to take notice of , in the light of what ı would think about the average neo-con better left unsaid . Let her be free of next round of American failures .

Seems like a bad idea for Romney, you really open the door to being heavily associated with W by picking someone so high up in his chain of command. Sure her approval is high now, but wait until the super pacs start hammering away at how big of a role she had in bush's foreign policy botchups.

Condi was incompetent as SecState and National Security Adviser. I can't imagine why anyone would think she was any better than that. I mean, seriously, she's a neocon. A movement based entirely on making crap up.
