I didn't know that two civs could start so close together. This is on standard continents, and our start locations actually overlap! I would have kept playing, but those are the Vikings, and for some strange reason I don't like having my capital so close to their galleys. :hmm:

:crazyeye: Weird!

in the scenario creater isn't there a set value of how far apart starting locatons can be? are (were) you playing on a tiny, or scenario map?

This was a randomly generated map on Standard size.

I've had PBEMs where I've started almost on top of the other players. Frustrating, to say the least.

So? Construct a map with only a very limited number of tiles, and put a lot of civs on it. I did that a few times, after building the capital city you start building warriors, then kill them one by one. It was fun to see they all die like that, but later on they appear on another tile of the map. I've also tried a 1-tile map, with 8 civs on it, but it didn't work, the computer always freeze at that moment when I load the game.

Interesting. I'm curious if you build your city right there will the Vikings take a turn to move a tile or two away?

Perhaps was it because you ARE on different continents. I don't think the AI would have scewed til up if it was land between you.

I was just In a multiplayer game and something similiar happened. I walk down south and see Paris. Once i wiped Paris out i went north and there was the french civ i dont know how they got past my Line of Site to go north strange.

Did you have Respawn AI Players enabled? If so , then that would explain it.

Why did you quit? You build first, so IIRC their city will be the one that suffers, getting only 6 tiles instead of 9. :yeah:

EDIT: As to why it happened, it could be because the Vikings are seafaring (if you have C3C) so that overrode their normally generated start and it had to pick that one. Maybe. :crazyeye:

Of course it is C3C, notice the sugar :crazyeye:, I would have kept playing, but sugar on plains gives 2 food, and the maximum without terraforming on any ohter square is 1. I would have had to gone and hunted out a river or lake to irrigate it.
