About the lack of construction line Wonders

I've really enjoyed the recent changes to the tech trees, especially the changes to chopping and the 'other' tile improvements like the mills. However, I think the 'earthy' tech lines still feel like they're missing something to me; a good Wonder. There aren't any wonders in the construction line until the Aquae Sucellus at Sanitation (which can now be researched without Construction, IIRC). Wouldn't it make sense that civs investing so much research in construction technology would want to show it off with a big, impressive building? :egypt:

I think Masonry would be a great place to put a new wonder. I consider the Masonry tech the red headed step child of the early tech tree at this point, useful only as a springboard to Construction. Forts are helpful, but Marble is a fairly weak resource, while Dungeons are horribly overpriced  and only helpful in the late game, where I rarely build them.

Having convinced myself of the need, I began was the fun part; imagining what sort of Wonder to include:) . My first thought was that a building allowing the elusive Engineer specialist would be good fit, but as I started to develop the idea I realized it would be the 'Great Library of the Construction Line', a bit too redundant. My second idea was the Megalith, a huge tower that would give a large view radius and maybe some economic or happiness bonuses. But FFH2 is already riddled with Towers, and upon further inspection this would be the 'Deruptus Brewery of the Construction Line'.

My third Idea, the Necropolis, passed the redundancy test, has some dark fantasy flavor and also fits the concept of a massive, showy building. I've written up a short description for debate purposes, but even if the Necropolis gets panned I think that the game has room for a well crafted Wonder early in the construction tech line.

The Necropolis - What started out as a simple city graveyard grew into a massive structure of earth and stone, rising as high above the city streets and it dug beneath them. The Necropolis is a marvel to those who behold it, and some who dare to walk it's chilly corridors claim to hear the whispering of the dead.

Necroplis
Requires: Masonry
Info: +2 :health: in the city where it is built
- You Revere the Dead' diplomacy modifier with other civs (usually positive)
- 25% Chance units built in this city will have the Spirit Guide promotion
Cost: 350 :hammers:
Type: World Wonder

The cost might be a bit low but otherwise it sounds great.

I think this wonder is really nice.
Spirit Guide is one of the promotions I always longed for when not playing Elohim...

Probably would be especially useful at Siddar OCC with DoW all the world,
by providing nice boost to speed up the shade production.

Not sure if I count at all, but I would like to see this.

I really like the idea of this wonder. I have always thought there should be another early wonder but never really put thought into what is should be.

Umm, is that a refrence to Pillar's of the Earth, or just a coincedence?

I didn't spend too much time worry about costs (I just used the Great Library :hammers: cost); I just wanted to float out an example out there, instead of just posting 'We Need a New Wonder!'.

I think it's a coincidence, but I can't speak for my subconscious; it's got a mind of it's own

I haven't read the follow-up to PotE. Good read?

How about tossing in a Great Engineer GPP or allowing the city to make one?

The best bet might be to steal something from the main game, as it would save an awful lot of work. In FF I'd suggest Pyramids for the Lizardmen tribes, as they seem to be loosely Aztec-based and it would suit them well.

As for FfH, I dunno maybe some kind of Wonder that uses the Spiral Minaret video... Perhaps something like Tower of the Morning Star The premise is that it's so tall you can see all your lands and so cannot be invaded by Barbarians - again stealing the code for Great Wall from Civ IV to prevent Barbarian invasions.

Barbarian immunity in FFH is bad, it steals from Clan, Charadon and Hyborem.

It's okay, but not as good as the first.

As for a construction line wonder, it could be good to have, but I have no ideas for one.
