Hello Everyone.

I am playing The Netherlands, and as the title says, I am about to quit my game.
I am on the late industrial, while the rest is on the Modern Era.
Immortal, Standard, Communitas map, Community Events and 4UC.

The state of my Empire is quite good internally, but on the outside, everything is upside down.
Venice (I think) bribed India, Siam and Poland to declare war with me, while Songhai declared just because my army is weak, but in defensible on position.

The problem is, because I am using the dutch, I can't trade luxuries, and on the turn almost everyone declared war with me (Arabia and Egypt hates me, they DOW'ed me a few turns before luxs were too expensive), my culture, gold, and happiness plummeted.

Poland, Egypt and Siam have Ideologies.

I don't know if my Empire can survive, because I need 2 more policies to unlock an Ideology, now my Empire is unhappy, and I have no luxuries to trade, I think it is the right time to rage quit.

My winning condition is near, 30 votes out of 40 votes.

Spoiler Empire View :

Mistakes: Greedily overexpanded (19 cities), blindly not expecting incoming wars thus neglecting military.
Any suggestions? :cringe::cringe:

I don't think you necessarily need to quit. Brokered wars often end when the turn requirement is met and then you'll be back to trading. Your happiness/gold/etc doesn't seem that bad. Being behind in tech this late in the game could be a problem but maybe not insurmountable. And diplo is probably the best victory condition to pursue when behind in tech anyway assuming lots of CSs survive for you to ally.

But, I think I can't meet the 40 votes without getting the 3rd tier Freedom.
I'm behind in Policies, luckily, my Religion is the world religion, and have built the Westminster.
So I think there is still a chance.

However, I just wanted to ask some suggestions and concrete plans on what steps I can do in order to achieve diplomatic victory.
I never won diplomatically, so I am not aware on how this victory can be achieved.
Thanks! :)

EDIT: With those polders, which is better to take first, Urbanization or the Free Hospitals?

Don't give up!

With world religion and the palace of westminster, you are in a great position to win via diplomacy. When new eras come, the number of votes each person gets increases. This can help you to reach the 40 needed. The threat is just someone else winning before you.

For happiness, slow down your growth until the international situation has stabilized. If you are behind in culture, you can try to pass that policy that boosts culture to those who are behind. I don't think you will be at war with everyone forever.

So, I'll let the tech leaders to advance the era, rather than me?
I never thought of that.

About the policy, I am not actually behind in score, I am the first in the score list, so that won't really help me. (Is that how it works?, the endowment of arts)
I'll pass World's Fair without aiming for the 1st place for the free social policy.
And let the others advance on eras, I'll just hold for a while, Songhai is the only attacking force though.

The brighter side of the war is; I met the other city-states, because I can't travel on their areas (closed borders).

I believe endownment for the arts works off of your score just for social policies.

How are the demographics? If I had 19 cities I would probably shoot for #1 in world's fair.

I think I am 2nd on manufactured goods, Songhai is the first, with few differences.
Why no.1, is that really helpful?

I can not build factories on all of my cities because I am deprived of coals. I focused on Train stations. Cities building Public Schools have factories and train stations.

Can someone confirm how this works exactly?
Hover over the score, it should have a breakdown of how many points are from different parts of your empire. One should be "X points from social policies". It's a certain number per policy, so you can also use this to see if an AI has adopted the opener of a new tree, since they don't show up until "2 fealty/statecraft/artistry/etc."

I'm not experienced enough to help you, but I'd be interested to know what map type you're using... I like that snaky feeling and those bottlenecks. Is it Tectonics?

Definitely this isn't a rage quit situation- 700+ gold per turn and a large army.
Minor problem is 7 unhappiness- try to stop that getting into a big worry. (may need some different forms of specialisation in cities- most seem to be food maxing).
Get the 2 remaining trade routes up and running, in cities with poverty unhappiness.
Wait for the wars to gradually end- you can see this out easily.

The food maxing actually has little to no meaning, I manually assign each citizen, I just clicked the food focus for the new citizens to work on polders.
Thanks.

Communitas map, 1 random rift, 9 AI (I added 1 to compensate the additional space).

I want to hear if you can pull it back. Keep us updated!

Here you go!

Spoiler A Beacon of Hope While I am at War with almost Everyone :

Yah, After 4 turns of happiness, thanks to the GA, and adopted a social policy that increases happiness from workshops by +1.
Then this happens.

Spoiler On Resistance :

Now, I'm in so much unhappiness, the brokered war deal has ended, but they still don't peace out.
Petty spies, now my capital is on resistance.

Spoiler Losing on the Sea :

Although, Songhai is not a threat on congquering Zutphen and Haarlem, the sea has become dangerous.
I'm not planning to quit though, because I have 33 votes, 7 more to victory!

I think, Siam and Egypt will enter Atomic Era soon.

EDIT: I declared friendship with Venice, for just I am sad because no one loves me :(

Everything is now stable. Thanks everyone.

Songhai, India and Poland ends the war.
I survived the onslaught :)

After the war, I think I'll be swimming in happiness. I worked all my cities to "culture" process, and used a Great Writer to adopt the Industry closer and take freedom.

Spoiler Venice being friendly! :

I don't need much Iron and Horses, so I traded even though he will benefit more in terms of strategic, but thanks to William's UA, I'll benefit more in this trade.

Spoiler Looks like someone is doing worse :

-1136 gold, what happened Casimir? 6-6-6-6 is scary though. I'll send extra of trade routes for the culture.

The aftermath of the war is: +19 happiness, but I am still at war with Egypt, Siam and Persia, which is not a problem and is actually beneficial.
Egypt: Slows CV, took autocracy, thanks god.
Siam: Can not steal city-states allies
Persia: Nothing to worry about.

I will take the free hospitals, before urbanization. I don't need much growth this time.
Thanks everyone! I think I can win this, btw, Egypt is 5/9 in CV.

Free hospitals are by far the best first tenet for you. You have lots of cities, that will significantly boost your happiness and growth and give you A LOT of culture: you have like 1000 per turn and 20 cities (this is actually very low) and your cities grow ~every 10 turns. You are in Modern so every new citizen will give you 250 culture, for 20 cities and 10 turns you get ±500 culture per turn from one tenet!
