Former President of Iraq, Saddam Hussein, warned his henchmen against cooperation with Bin Laden. Bin Laden himself rejected "several pleas from his lieutenants" to work with the man he called "an infidel".

The **** just keeps piling up, doesn't it?

U.S.: Saddam Document Wary of Foreign Fighters
Wed Jan 14, 1:59 PM ET Add Top Stories - Reuters to My Yahoo!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A document found with Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) when he was captured by U.S. forces warned his supporters to be cautious about linking up with foreigners coming into Iraq (news - web sites) to fight Americans, a U.S. official said on Wednesday.

"It's a document in which he urges his supporters to be cautious in dealing with jihadists," the official said. "The implication is because he can't entirely trust these guys."

The document, found with the ousted Iraqi president when he was captured on Dec. 13, does not say supporters should avoid dealing with foreign fighters, but that they should be wary because their goals may not be the same, the official told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

The New York Times, which first reported on the document, said it was a second piece of evidence challenging the Bush administration's claim of close cooperation between Saddam's government and al Qaeda.

CIA (news - web sites) interrogators have been told by senior members of al Qaeda in custody that before the U.S.-led war against Iraq, al Qaeda leader Osama bin laden had rejected pleas from some of his lieutenants to work with Saddam, The New York Times said.

Insurgents have been fighting U.S. forces in Iraq with explosives and rocket-propelled grenades that have killed troops and downed helicopters. General U.S. estimates are that foreign fighters probably number in the hundreds.

U.S. intelligence analysis had said that Islamic extremists and Saddam's secular Baathist government were "not natural bedfellows," but that Iraq had had contacts with organizations the United States considered to be terrorist, including Ansar al-Islam, Abu Nidal and al Qaeda, a U.S. official said.

Wow. This is certainly big news. Clearly, Saddam is innocent of all crimes and should be reinstated as the democratically elected head of the Iraqi government.

It's common knowledge that Hussein and Ben Laden are at opposite ends of the extremists agenda. Under Hussein Iraq had a real separation between the Church and the State, Ossama is a religious fool.
To think that there's still people in the US who believe these two worked togheter.

Yet another false dilemma! You just don't give up do you?

Try posting on topic next time. Please?

Anybody knowing a little more then Bush about Iraky cultur will have already made the same conclusion.

Irak wasnt at all a foundamatalist party, they even fight against them in iran's war.

Its like saying the black slave were allied with the secesionist to keep their right to be dominated.

But according to statistic, a huge % of US citizen just listen to Bush and think he speak the holy truth.

Well for those that name support for terrorism as a Casis Belli, they have some answering to do.

It was not my primary reason, however.

Either way, whether this is true or not changes little.

PP where have you been, it has been known for a while that Saddam and Osama weren't friends.

Newf:That kind of talk won't wash from any of you neocons when the search function is back. The minute TF puts it back up you're all going to be treated to a banquet of your own verbiage. Till then, of course, you're perfectly safe ;) :p

Of course, there is only one terrorist organization in the world, right, PP?

Saddam's government did have contacts with Palestinian terrorists. But none of them are involved in a direct struggle with America.

I thought we knew this about 6 months ago?

Isn't there a war where the US is fighting ALL terrorists (meaning more than just Osama's goons)? It doesn't matter who the terrorists are threatening. A terrorist is a terrorist and should be handled, accordingly.

Invade Corsica!

Honestly...

It's been a common habit during the Cold war to consider there was always a good side and an evil side in any foreign wars. Even if the reasons are simply the involvement of our governments, that kind of statement had been emphasized by our medias who are always seeking for some kind of righteous cause to fight for in those wars. I consider that is legitimate and human but it's also dangerous since it's a great machinery to create scapegoats.

Those wars aren't always black and white. Even if mathematically we can say the ennemy of my ennemy is my friend, it doesn't work so simply when it deals with geopolitical conflicts. We should never under-evaluate the complexity of foreign conflicts.

And Abu Nidal just had an apartment in Baghdad because the scenery is so nice?
Iraq is the size of California, so it is possible that the government didn't know that he was in the country/city. Our government isn't even sure where the terrorists are at here in America O.o
