This tool is just awesome!
I installed it on FireFox (the only browser you can use it on) and the ads that appear on this site and others are gone when I select them to be gone.
Now I see no more flashy ads anywhere.
I found it here:

https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=10&application=firefox

Really, really neat.

[EDIT]
Here are a few examples of how well it works, this is on the main page:

This is on the bottom of the User CP, where ads occur. As you can see, they are completely gone:

You mean no more annoying flash ads with sound? Why didint you tell us about this before when we were bombarded with that stupid Star Wars ringtone ad? :p

Hehe, I just found it. :)

I don't know if it works with sound though. It should, I think...

Ask vbraun. ;)

This is probably the best extension for firefox... But does it cut down on revenue for the site that you have blocked ads on?

Now how do you keep the Flash ad blocker on all the time? :hmm:

Here's my 3 step tutorial on how I block ads.
1. Right click the advertisment (If it's a Flash object hit the adblock button)
2. Get rid of all the stuff to the right of http://wee.something.ads/ (Pretty much get rid of everything after the third /) Click ok
This makes all the stuff from the site you left disappear getting rid of possible future ads from the same site.
3. Rinse and Repeat

Also I will put in a filler like http://ads.*.*/ to get rid of all the sites that start with 'ads' (* is a wildcard)

This should help you not have to get rid of every ad you come across becasue some will already be blocked! :)

I recently upgraded to FireFox after stubbornly (lazyness mostly) kept me with FireBird for about a year. Not only that, I can now block any add I happend to see (block out access to the source site), dynamically identify the IP and location of all links, enable-disable javascript, direct tyrranical control over pop-ups and the likes and fake the browser signature and IP adress. 1 (4n 4|50 1n574n74n30u5|y (0nv3r7 70 |337 5p34k.

All that's left is a desire to tweak e-mail protocols a bit: the idea is that someone sending an e-mail would first have to pass through a filter to identify as a human user by being able to read a fuzzy segment of text (something which is extremely difficult by computers).

Anti-spam measures are already avalible in terms of technology and the implementation costs are quite small. It just takes a little bit of education. Now compare that with the sledgehapper aproach some countries chose to take with draconian legislation (but which can only be applied arbitrarily). I'm not saying be a paranoid like me, but there are such things as free lunches in security.

Yes.

I use admuncher for adblocking... it's generally better than adblock, but it isn't free. I disable filtering on a few select sites that I don't like the idea of hurting financially.

By the way, do not try to uninstall Adblock unless you have some time on your hands, and I don't just mean that it takes a long time either.

It screws up your entire profile, so you'll have to create a brand new one.
I tried to re-install it yesterday (because of some link issues on CFC) and it happened to me. ;)

Just thought everybody should know in case...

No, becouse advertisers do not as of yet factor in how many poeple who visit the site use adblock. They just access the site based on the number of visiters or pings.

This may change as more people use adblock.

It would ofcourse harm the ad makers themselves, becouse they pay a site extra for having more people, but a good number of those people do not even see the ad.

Hzah (or however you spell it) for addblock!

Oh, and I doubt I will ever want to delete it ;).

I know plenty of sites where advertisers pay based on the number of times their ads get loaded...
A site cannot detect if an ad loads or not, unless it leaves a cookie, which most ads don't.

What is ment by "the number of times their ads get loaded" is actually the number of times that ad is sent to a user. (who is presumed to see the ad)
