Hey guys, I looked around this forum as best I could but I admit I'm having a little trouble paying attention to detail when the game I just bought won't run properly. So my apologies if this is repeated elsewhere.

I have a retail copy of the game and every time I try to load it, I make it past the opening video (which looks beautiful) but then the game gets stuck on a plain black screen and doesn't make it any further, regardless of amount of time left (15 minutes waiting for the game to load was the max, I believe).

I installed Steam for the first time just before installing the game and installed the game from Steam (pretty sure on that, wasn't paying very close attention). I have the option to open Steam and run the game. I've tried both the DirectX 9 option and the DirectX 10/11 option doing this and neither works. I've also tried closing Steam and running the game from the Civ 5 shortcut, which doesn't work either.

I'm using Windows 7 on an HP G71 notebook bought roughly nine months ago. If you need any other info, I'll do my best to provide it. If anyone can help with this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

No sure if this helps, but I remember reading somewhere to turn the intro video off. Go to your Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 5 folder and edit usersettings.ini and change skip intro video from 0 to 1. I haven't had that issue, but I read somewhere that will fix it.

I've turned the intro video off, but then nothing loads instead of it stopping after the intro video. I also tried running it in window mode instead of full screen but nothing still. Anyone? This is very frustrating.
